In The Heart Of The Cerrado, Caldas Novas Attracts Visitors With Its Naturally Warm Waters, Hundreds Of Pools And Tourist Infrastructure That Turns The Underground Heat Into One Of The Most Sought-After Destinations In Brazil.
In the heart of the Cerrado, there is a destination where the water doesn’t need a cauldron to boil the visitor’s imagination.
In Caldas Novas, in southern Goiás, the pools are the calling card, the clubs are the meeting point, and the heat that rises from the ground supports a tourist scene that never cools down.
The urban landscape mixes with springs that flow hot, and from the moment visitors arrive at the local airport, they already understand why the municipality gained fame as the “city of pools”.

Right from the first dive, the essential information: Caldas Novas is recognized by the Goiás government as the largest hydrothermal resort in the world.
The waters that supply hotels, resorts, and clubs arrive naturally warm, with temperatures ranging from 43 °C to 70 °C at the springs.
This geological foundation feeds a hotel network with over 75,000 beds and a collection of parks with hundreds of pools, allowing them to host over 500,000 visitors during peak seasons, according to official state materials.
Why Is The Water Hot: Geothermics, Not Volcano
There is no hidden volcano beneath Caldas Novas.
The explanation accepted by Brazilian geological literature is geothermics.
Rainwater seeps into the Serra de Caldas, travels through fractures and aquifers, heats up through the natural conditions of the underground, and returns to the surface at spots like Ribeirão Água Quente and ancient springs in the municipality.

Technical documents and institutional pages reinforce this origin and debunk the myth of volcanism in the region.
Nature In Guard: The Mountain That Recharges The Springs
The maintenance of the hydrothermal system depends on the protection of the recharge area.
For this purpose, the State Park of Serra de Caldas Novas (Pescan), the first conservation unit created by the Goiás government, establishes visitation and management rules.
Marked trails, lookouts, and streams compose the internal route of the park, while management seeks to reconcile public use and conservation.
The central guideline is to preserve the resource that sustains the hot waters arriving in the city.
Massive Tourist Structure: Clubs, Resorts, And Water Recreation
Wave pools, water slides, hot tubs, children’s areas, and lazy rivers form a repertoire that explains the constant demand for Caldas Novas.
The leisure offer is diverse, featuring large-scale enterprises and standardized services to cater to everyone from families to tour groups.
At night, clubs and event centers maintain entertainment programming, which extends the stay of visitors.
The official communication of the destination lists some of these facilities and reinforces the extensive and consolidated nature of the infrastructure.
How To Get There: Airport And Road Access
Connectivity is another advantage.
Caldas Novas is served by Nelson Ribeiro Guimarães Airport, which operates commercial flights and acts as a gateway for travelers from different regions of the country.

In addition to the air connection, state and federal highways connect the city to the main centers of the Midwest and Southeast, facilitating arrival by car or bus.
This combination of access routes and large accommodation capacity sustains the seasonality of the destination, with peaks in the dry winter and during long holidays.
A Regional Complex Of Hot Waters
The phenomenon does not stop at municipal borders.
The neighboring Rio Quente shares the same geological foundation and has its own parks and resorts.
Together, the two municipalities form what official materials describe as the largest hydrothermal complex in the world, which helps to gauge the scale of thermal tourism in southern Goiás.
This regional perspective is useful for discussing aspects such as visitor management, urban planning, and environmental preservation beyond the limits of Caldas Novas.
Thermal Constancy And Predictable Experience
Another differentiator lies in thermal constancy.
While the springs may register high temperatures, the hotel complexes adjust recreational use to milder ranges suitable for prolonged bathing.
With a stable climate throughout the year and ample availability of facilities, the experience tends to be similar across different times.
This makes it easier to plan family trips and for visitors to return over the seasons.
Tourism As A Driver Of The Local Economy
Official reports and regional data indicate that the total annual flow reaches millions of visitors, with a direct impact on jobs and revenue.
The tourist industry organizes the local economy, boosts the hospitality, food, and transportation sectors, and attracts large-scale events outside the coldest months.
Estimates vary according to methodology and collection period but converge on the centrality of thermal tourism for Caldas Novas and the region of Águas Quentes.
What Matters To Travelers: Essential Information

For travelers, some information remains objective.
This is a destination with natural waters that can reach up to 70 °C at the springs and hundreds of pools distributed among clubs and hotels.
The robust hotel network makes it easy to book for different budget profiles, while access via airplane and highways shortens the journey for those coming from nearby capitals.
During peak periods, such as July and holidays, occupancy increases, and it is advisable to plan in advance.
Environment In Constant Discussion
Environmental issues remain on the horizon for local authorities.
Pescan and municipal tourism policies cite water recharge protection as a priority: this involves controlling visitation in sensitive areas, monitoring water extractions, and guiding land use in urban and rural surroundings.
Alongside leisure, the topic brings debates about water availability, quality of water resources, and Cerrado conservation, issues that interest readers and deserve follow-up as new technical publications are released.
Summary Panorama
In factual summary, Caldas Novas and its surroundings offer a hydrothermal complex of global scale, with waters that spring hot, large-scale hospitality and leisure infrastructure, and easy access by airport and highways.
It is a Brazilian destination with rare characteristics that transformed the local geology into a tourist identity and a vibrant economy.
Have you visited Caldas Novas or are you planning to explore the region of Águas Quentes — what was the hottest pool you’ve entered, and which aspect of the experience most influenced your trip?

Minhas 3 cidades do interior favoritas são: Arraial do Cabo/ RJ, Tresópolis/RJ e Caldas Novas/GO. (Serra, mar e Águas termais). Me aposentarei e viverei a vida nestas 3 cidades e na minha capital carioca, onde vivo atualmente… Oh vida boa!!!!
Fica a dica.
