With 100 km of bike lanes, 22.5 km of beach, and a population growth of 4.47%, Praia Grande establishes itself as an urban, tourist, and sustainable hub of the São Paulo coastline, attracting residents and investors seeking quality of life

Located just 75 km from the capital of São Paulo, Praia Grande stands out as one of the most dynamic cities on the coast of São Paulo. Neighboring Santos and São Vicente, it earned the nickname “City of Bicycles” for having 100 km of interconnected bike lanes, a milestone in urban mobility and recreation.

Combining economic growth, an urbanized waterfront, and quality of life, the municipality has established itself as one of the main development hubs of Baixada Santista.

With 365,000 inhabitants, according to IBGE, Praia Grande is the second most populous city in the region.

Between 2022 and 2024, the population growth was 4.47%, driven by tourism, commerce, and civil construction — sectors that sustain local advancement. “Praia Grande is synonymous with quality of life and affordable costs,” emphasizes the City Hall.

Growth and Quality of Life

The Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.754 places the municipality above the national average.

The real estate market is booming, with over 60% of launches in Baixada Santista concentrated in the city, according to Secovi data.

This dynamics attract investors and families seeking housing near the sea.

Furthermore, the lower cost of living compared to Santos or São Paulo has encouraged the migration of new residents.

The city offers a wide hospital network, a well-structured educational system, and efficient public transportation, reinforcing its image as an organized and welcoming city.

Sustainable Mobility and Bike Tourism

With 100 km of bike lanes and a continuous coastal strip of 22.5 km, Praia Grande has become a reference in sustainable mobility.

Approximately one-third of the population uses bicycles in their daily routines, not just for leisure, but also as their main mode of transport.

The beachfront bike lane, considered the largest in the country, connects neighborhoods, beaches, and tourist attractions, stimulating bike tourism and urban interaction.

According to the Municipal Traffic Department, “Praia Grande has the largest network of bike lanes in the state and is a model of mobility on the coast.”

Leisure, Tourism, and a Diverse Waterfront in the City of Bicycles

The unique 22.5 km beach is divided into different sections, each with its own personality.

Boqueirão is the commercial and tourist heart, with kiosks, PG Shopping, and Peace Square. Meanwhile, Canto do Forte, with calm waters, is ideal for families and permanent residents.

Neighborhoods like Guilhermina and Vila Sônia mix residential life with intense commerce, while Solemar and Flórida offer tranquility and direct contact with nature.

Praia da Aviação, on the other hand, hosts events and sports during the summer.

During the peak season, the city can receive up to 2 million visitors. At this time, the number of jobs increases by 30%, and municipal revenue rises by around 50%, reinforcing the importance of tourism to the local economy.

Culture and Tradition Year-Round

Cultural life also plays a prominent role. The Palace of Arts, with 6,000 m², houses the Municipal Theater Serafim Gonzalez and the City Museum, serving as the main cultural center of the municipality.

Among the most visited spaces are Peace Square, with seven monumental sculptures honoring world peace defenders, and the statue of Neptune, a symbol of the Ocian neighborhood.

Portinho Ézio Dall’Acqua, featuring a pier, kiosks, and an Environmental School, is a popular leisure spot among families.

The city also houses the Fish Boutique, a themed market selling fresh fish and offering a viewpoint with a panoramic view of Itaipu Fort.

In addition, it annually hosts the Iemanjá Festival in December, gathering thousands of faithful at Mirim and Caiçara beaches.

Craft fairs complement the cultural calendar and drive tourism throughout the year, reinforcing local identity.

Where to Live and When to Visit

Among the most sought-after neighborhoods are Guilhermina — the most populous with intense urban life —, Canto do Forte, valued and safe, and Boqueirão, the commercial and cultural center of the city.

Vila Sônia combines residences and commerce with easy access to the waterfront, while Solemar and Flórida are refuges of tranquility and nature.

Summer, from December to March, is the best time to enjoy the sea, events, and nightlife. Meanwhile, from April to November, the mild climate, with temperatures ranging from 15 °C to 28 °C, attracts those seeking rest and lower prices.

Praia Grande: A City in Constant Motion

Combining urban development, sustainable mobility, and natural beauty, Praia Grande consolidates itself as one of the most complete cities on the São Paulo coast. The balance between progress and well-being defines its rhythm.

As the municipal administration summarizes: “Praia Grande is the city where the sea, bicycles, and progress go in the same direction.
