Next Week, The President of Anatel And The Minister of Communications Have A Meeting Scheduled With Apple To Promote Access For Brazilian Customers To The 5G Signal
A meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday (the 2nd) between the president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Carlos Baigorri, the minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, and the multinational Apple, in the municipality of Palo Alto (USA). In the meeting, Baigorri and Faria will request that Apple expedite an update for the brand’s phones so that Brazilian customers can access the ‘standalone’ 5G signal, also known as pure 5G, which arrived in Brazil earlier this month when it was launched in Brasília.
The Expectation Is That Apple Will Carry Out The Necessary Update By The End Of September
According to a report by Broadcast, last Wednesday (the 27th), the president of Anatel and the minister stated in a press conference that they will demand urgency from Apple. It is expected that the necessary firmware update will be implemented by the company by the end of September, which is the deadline for operators to implement the 5G signal in all Brazilian capitals.
Among all 67 devices listed by Anatel as compatible with the 5G signal, none belong to Apple. Thus, the motivation behind the pressure exerted by the agency and the government for the multinational to carry out an update becomes evident.

Also on Wednesday, there was confirmation of the authorization for the activation of the 5G signal in the capitals of João Pessoa (PB), Porto Alegre (RS), and Belo Horizonte (MG). Therefore, these cities began transmitting 5G on Friday (the 29th), joining Brasília as part of the municipalities where the signal has already been released.
During the press conference, the minister and the president of Anatel also tried to explain the procedures for charging the quality standard for operators offering the 5G signal over the next few weeks. According to them, however, only from the end of September will companies start to be effectively charged to provide the signal under the minimum conditions set in the 5G auction.
In this regard, Fábio Faria clarified that the city of Brasília, for example, began accessing the 5G signal on July 6, having until September 29 to fulfill all its obligations. It is only after the 29th that Anatel conducts its assessment. Faria says that, from the perspective of some individuals, everything would be functioning from day one and Anatel would already need to act, which, as seen, is not the case.
About The 5G Signal
The functioning of 5G networks occurs via radio frequency, just like previous generations. However, the difference with 5G compared to older technologies is the covered spectrum, as it is significantly larger. This will allow for higher speeds, with lower latency and greater coverage.
In this sense, Márcio Fabbris, vice president of Marketing and Sales at the operator Vivo, states that, generally, the 5G signal provides direct benefits to consumers through an ultra-high-speed mobile network, thus creating space for companies to develop immersive services and experiences, with more frequent and efficient use of virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies.
The executive concludes that, with the 5G infrastructure at its maximum capacity, a world of possibilities opens up for customers and for society as a whole.
Additionally, in an interview with the site Olhar Digital, the superintendent and executive secretary of Gaispi at Anatel, Vinicius Caram, also highlighted that 5G does not only serve the common user but the entire production chain and various areas of the economy, such as agribusiness, logistics, and automation sectors, among others.
