Usiminas announced last Monday, (01/04), a significant investment of R$ 950 million in a repair project at Coqueira 2, located in Minas Gerais. The main objective of this initiative is to improve the operational efficiency of Battery 3, thereby strengthening the company’s operations and boosting coke production. According to the company, it is expected that 600 jobs will be created after the repair is completed.
The works began at the end of February this year and are expected to continue until 2026, totaling a period of 33 months of interventions.

New J.Macêdo factory receives an investment of R$ 300 million, expands pasta production in the Northeast, creates jobs, and boosts the economy in Ceará.
Currently, Coqueira 2 operates only with Battery 3, as production was halted in December 2023 due to concerns about environmental impact and operational performance.
This renovation is crucial to ensure operational sustainability in the coming years, as well as to improve the quality of coke as a fuel.
Generation of New Jobs and Regional Development
After the repair is completed, it is estimated that approximately 600 jobs will be directly created, highlighting the positive impact of this investment on generating new opportunities in the region.
Usiminas’ Vice President of Primary Areas, Célio Assis, stated that the expectation is to increase coke production by 12% after the repair works, in addition to enhancing competitiveness.
Moreover, it is important to emphasize that Usiminas’ investment not only benefits the company but also impacts the local economy of the Vale do Aço, strengthening the bond between the institution and the community.
Approximately 60% of the workforce used in the works will consist of local workers, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the region.
Usiminas’ investment in Coqueira 2 represents an important step to ensure operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic growth for both the company and the region.
