Discover The Real Consumption, The Points Of Attention In Maintenance, And Why This Korean Giant Is A Find In The Used Market.

For those looking for a large, reliable, and, primarily, affordable SUV, the 2013 Kia Sorento with V6 Engine stands out as a surprising solution. This car offers seven seats, all-wheel drive, and a complete list of features at a price that defies logic. The most incredible part is its price in the used market, comparable to that of a brand-new Renault Kwid. It’s a true warrior, versatile for all occasions, that has aged exceptionally well.

The second-generation Kia Sorento was sold in Brazil from 2010 to 2015. The 2013 model, in particular, represents a car that was synonymous with luxury in its time. Built on a unibody platform, unlike the first generation that used a pickup truck chassis, it offers an ideal balance between strength and comfort for urban use.

When new, it was one of the most expensive and luxurious SUVs from Kia in the country. Today, the reality is different. The most complete version, with a V6 engine and all the options, has an approximate FIPE (Brazilian Vehicle Value Table) price of R$ 74,000, but can be found in ads between R$ 60,000 and R$ 70,000. That’s the price of a basic popular car, yet it delivers much more comfort and technology.

V6 Engine: Power, Consumption, And Reliability

The heart of this SUV is the 3.5-liter V6 engine. It delivers 278 horsepower and 34.2 kgf.m of torque. It’s a robust engine shared with other Hyundai-Kia models, such as the Azera and Santa Fe. The transmission is a six-speed automatic with a torque converter.

Fuel consumption is a point of attention. In the city, the car achieves around 5.5 km/l. On the highway, the numbers improve, reaching 10 km/l, and can exceed this slightly depending on speed. Considering the weight of 1,800 kg, the 4×4 drive, and the capacity for seven people, the numbers are acceptable. The significant advantage is that the mechanical set of the KIA Sorento V6 is extremely durable and rarely presents issues.

An important warning: avoid the version with the 2.4 four-cylinder engine. This engine has a history of chronic problems and may seize, resulting in significant losses for the owner. The V6, on the other hand, is synonymous with peace of mind.

Maintenance And Problems: What You Need To Know?

With a 278-horsepower V6 engine, the 2013 Kia Sorento is a true find in the used market, costing from R$ 60 thousand
With a design that has aged very well, the 2013 Sorento maintains robust lines and an integral appearance that represents the style of luxury SUVs from the early 2010s.

Despite its robustness, a car with more than 10 years of use demands care. If the previous owner did not carry out basic maintenance, problems may arise. One point that can be bothersome in models from 2010 and 2011 is the wear of the variable timing camshaft adjusters.

Preventive maintenance is crucial. It’s essential to perform the oil change for the automatic transmission, central differential, and rear differential. These are three specific fluids that ensure the longevity of the transmission system. The engine uses a timing chain, which theoretically lasts the entire service life of the engine.

The cost of some parts is accessible. A pair of rear shock absorbers costs around R$ 600. The major villain, however, is the front headlight with xenon, which can cost over R$ 5,000 each.

Interior Space And Comfort For The Whole Family

With a length of 4.68 meters, the Sorento makes excellent use of space. The trunk has a capacity of 440 liters with five seats. When using all seven seats, the space reduces to 150 liters. A notable feature is the flat floor when the third row is folded down.

Passengers in the third row benefit from a dedicated air conditioning vent and a three-point seatbelt, a rare comfort. In the second row, the space is ample, with a reclining backrest and air vents in the B-pillar.

The list of features includes a panoramic sunroof, leather seats with electric adjustment for the driver, keyless entry, automatic headlights, six airbags, and stability and traction control. The model also received top security ratings in tests of its time.
