Leading Natural Gas Distributor in Latin America Presents Significant Economic and Environmental Benefits for Consumers and Industry.
In a move aligned with market demands, Comgás, a highlight in the distribution of piped natural gas in Latin America, announced its rate adjustment last week. This review, formalized by the Regulatory Agency for Public Services of the State of São Paulo (Arsesp) and published in the Official State Gazette, brings a 5.8% decrease in the rate for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
CNG: The Smart Choice for Drivers
This rate reduction emphasizes the benefits of CNG, especially when considering the potential savings of over 40% for light vehicle drivers compared to gasoline and ethanol. CNG is not only more economical but also less polluting compared to other traditional fuels.
Guilherme Santana Freitas, leader of the CNG segment at Comgás, reinforces: “The transition to greener and more profitable options, combined with simplified installation and maintenance and an extensive network of over 230 Comgás stations, solidifies CNG as the preferred choice for fleet managers”.

The performance of CNG in common vehicles outperforms other fuels. If a CNG vehicle can travel 14 kilometers per cubic meter, with ethanol this drops to 7 kilometers per liter and with gasoline, 10 kilometers per liter. “Drivers can expect significant savings, reaching around R$200 for every 1000 km driven”, adds Guilherme.
Benefits Beyond the Road
When looking at heavy vehicles, the savings provided by CNG reach 15% per kilometer compared to diesel. And this savings can further increase with customized projects. Comgás is encouraging the implementation of fueling stations in strategic locations, resulting in savings of up to 40% compared to conventional diesel.
The efficient distribution of natural gas through pipelines reduces the risk of supply shortages, unlike imported fuels distributed by trucks. “The environmental impact of CNG is also noteworthy, with a reduction of up to 20% in greenhouse gas emissions and over 90% in local pollutant emissions”, concludes Guilherme.
Focus on Industry
In addition to the benefits for drivers, Arsesp approved a reduction of up to 5.5% for the industrial sector. Comgás serves a variety of industries, all benefiting from natural gas as a more economical and less polluting alternative. Sectors such as chemical, petrochemical, and paper production are gradually opting for natural gas due to its superior efficiency.
