A Decade And Three Years Of Sustainable Partnership In Mato Grosso
For over 13 years, Atiaia Renováveis, part of the Cornélio Brennand Group and specialized in the generation and commercialization of renewable energies, has established a valuable partnership with the indigenous communities of Xingu and Xavante in Mato Grosso. This collaboration is part of the company’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) initiative, a core strategy aimed at going beyond mere sustainability, seeking to transform society as a whole.
Integrated Initiatives For Community Well-Being
The program for comprehensive care of indigenous components, named the Basic Environmental Program, started in 2008. This program resulted in the preparation of the ECI (Indigenous Component Study), which assessed the conditions and needs of indigenous peoples in the Xavante and Xingu indigenous lands. The results of this study, which were approved by both FUNAI and the indigenous communities, led to the implementation of a series of programs focusing on environmental, sociocultural, and economic aspects. Some of these include initiatives in management, social communication, social and economic development, ethno-environmental sustainability, territorial and environmental support and monitoring, infrastructure, and training in environmental recovery, promotion of food practices, health and environmental education, strengthening indigenous organizations, and cultural appreciation.
In each of these programs, Atiaia Renováveis seeks to bring its vision of being 100% renewable to life. For example, the PBA Management Program established an administrative and advisory committee composed of three chiefs from different regions of Xingu. This committee acquires training programs and serves as a support and communication point in their respective localities. The company also created a logo, called Yakã, to identify the actions carried out by the programs and increase visibility for the cause and commitment to sustainable transformation. Yakã, which means river in Guarani, underscores the relevance of this natural element to the lives of indigenous communities.

After 14 years of construction and a diplomatic crisis that nearly led to a military confrontation over control of the Nile, Ethiopia inaugurated the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa — the dam is 170 meters high, holds 74 billion cubic meters of water, and generates 5,150 megawatts.

While Brazil sets records in solar and wind energy, the electrical system shuts down power plants every day because the transmission lines can’t handle it — and the losses have already exceeded R$ 5 billion in three years.

While the world still relies on polluting and slow energy, the island of Samsø in Denmark has started producing 40% more energy than it consumes, with 11 turbines, projects of up to 40 million euros, and a sustainable revolution built by just 4,000 inhabitants.
Respect And Appreciation For Indigenous Culture
Ligia Guedes, Environmental Manager at Atiaia Renováveis, emphasizes the importance of indigenous peoples to the company: “Preserving human life in all its forms, biodiversity, and the sustainability of the place we live is a premise of Atiaia Renováveis. All actions we take have the authorization of both the indigenous peoples and FUNAI, as we seek to understand and meet the needs of this community while always respecting their values, culture, and traditions.”
