Selection Process with Vacancies for High School and Higher Education Promises to Attract Thousands of Candidates Across the Country
The State Department of Transit (Detran) confirmed the organization of two major public competitions planned for 2025. In addition, there will be 800 vacancies for high school and higher education positions, which increases candidates’ interest. The opportunities cover the Detran of Espírito Santo (ES) and the Detran of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Therefore, salaries exceed R$ 12 thousand, according to information from the Annual Budget Laws of 2025 for each state.
Detran of Espírito Santo Contest
The Detran-ES, according to the State Secretary of Finance (Sefaz-ES), included the competition in its Annual Budget Law (LOA). Therefore, the forecast is for 200 vacancies, being 100 for Traffic Assistant (high school) and 100 for Traffic Analyst (higher education). The salaries range from R$ 2,409.75 to R$ 11,407.01, with a workload of 40 hours per week. The last competition took place in 2010, organized by Cespe/Cebraspe, and had more than 13 thousand applicants, demonstrating strong candidate interest.
As many units only have commissioned servers, Detran needs to strengthen its permanent staff. Therefore, competition is expected to be fierce. The announcement will be published in the first half of 2025, and registrations will be available to participants from all over Brazil, according to the official announcement from the agency.
Detran of Rio de Janeiro Contest
In Rio de Janeiro, the contest will be even broader, with 600 immediate vacancies and reserve list. According to the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the announcement is expected in December 2025. Additionally, the vacancies cover the positions of Administrative Technical Assistant, Traffic Technical Assistant, Management Analyst, and Traffic Analyst.
The salaries range from R$ 4,667.36 to R$ 6,642.73, potentially exceeding R$ 12 thousand with benefits and career advancements. The 2013 competition, which offered 800 vacancies, marked a significant advancement in the modernization of the agency. After changes in the presidency of Detran-RJ in August 2025, internal sources assure Jornal do Estado that the contest remains confirmed and is a priority to enhance service to the population of Rio de Janeiro.

Registrations and Stages
Registrations will be carried out directly on the websites of the organizing bodies, shortly after the publication of the official announcements. Additionally, complete information will be available on the portals of Detran-ES and Detran-RJ.
Those wishing to participate need to start studying as soon as possible, since the exams are scheduled to take place in the second half of 2025. Detran competitions typically require knowledge in Portuguese Language, Logical Reasoning, Computer Science, and Traffic Legislation, in addition to specific content for each position.
Therefore, it is advisable to review previous exams, set a weekly study schedule, and alternate theory with practical exercises. By doing so, candidates increase their chances of securing a position and stand out in the selection process.
Advance Preparation is Critical
With the confirmation of the competitions and the high demand for stability and good salaries, advance preparation becomes essential. Public competition specialists emphasize the importance of planning, consistency, and using updated materials.
The last competition for each agency occurred over a decade ago, which requires adaptation to new guidelines and exam formats. Therefore, those who start studying as soon as possible will have a competitive advantage, gaining a better understanding of the agency profiles and the required content.
Thus, Detran demonstrates its commitment to the efficiency of public service, while opening real opportunities for those seeking stability and professional growth.
