The Civil Construction Sector Continues to Generate Jobs Even Amid the Pandemic
The 12 Brazilian states that generated the most jobs in the civil construction industry amid the coronavirus pandemic were: Roraima, Pará, Amapá, Tocantins, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Alagoas, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Paraná and the Federal District – in these states, there was a higher number of employees with formal contracts.

Recently, Acre, Amazonas, Maranhão, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, and Mato Grosso do Sul have also been highlighted as the second-largest job creators in civil construction amid the pandemic.
Growth in the Number of Jobs in Civil Construction Even Amid the Pandemic
According to Dieese-PA, all economic sectors in the State showed growth, with a highlight for Civil Construction (with 2,689 positions), followed by the General Industry sector (1,361 positions); Commerce (1,261); Services (1,242) and the Agricultural Sector (803 positions).

The study is part of the Work Observatory project of the State of Pará, conducted in partnership by Dieese and the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Work, Employment, and Income (Seaster).
Positive Balance
During this same pandemic period, the Civil Construction sector in Tocantins reported 41,364 jobs, against 38,691 dismissals, leaving a positive balance of 2,673 new jobs in the formal market. August was the best month of the year for hiring, leaving a balance of 2,040.
The balance is the difference between the number of admissions minus dismissals in a given period. As in other months of the year, civil construction led the generation of formal jobs amid the pandemic.
In August, the sector hired 1,284 workers and dismissed 609, resulting in a positive balance of 675 new jobs. Throughout the year, companies in the sector registered a total of 11,779 jobs from January to August, with a relative variation of 6.08%.
