IWS Fleet, A Subsidiary of Integrated Wind Solutions, Received New Commissioning Service Operations for Offshore Wind Farms Equipped with Zero-Emission Sustainable Batteries.
The IWS Fleet subsidiary of Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS) received the new commissioning service operations vessel (CSOV) IW Skywalker from shipbuilder China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. (CMI).
After transit to Europe, the vessel will commence the first of three charter contracts at the world’s largest offshore wind farm – Dogger Bank, in the U.S. – in the first quarter of 2024. During the delivery process, the IW Skywalker demonstrated its efficient and safe navigation capabilities.
IWS Skywalker: New Standards in Sustainable Shipbuilding
The vessels developed by Kongsberg Maritime are equipped with 3D compensated walkways and crane systems, ensuring high standards in shipbuilding. Hybrid-powered vessels, like the IW Skywalker, are among the first in the industry to enable zero-emission operations, providing integrated wind solutions for a more sustainable future.

IWS noted that the vessels have several ‘industry innovations’, such as the largest batteries in the sector with solar panels for additional charging and a new hull and propulsion design that enhances operability and reduces emissions. The vessels are the first in the sector to achieve the ‘DNV SILENT’ notation, which focuses on minimizing the impact on marine life below the water.
IWS Skywalker: Commitment to Sustainability and Efficiency
Lars-Henrik Røren, CEO of IWS, highlighted: ‘We are excited to receive the IW Skywalker, a remarkable achievement for integrated wind solutions. IWS is now well-positioned to fulfill the strategy of adding vessels to integrated services, providing high quality to our clients and contributing to a more sustainable future.’
Christopher Heidenreich, COO and General Director of IWS Fleet AS, added: ‘Our suppliers have worked tirelessly with our team to successfully deliver the best vessel possible. The IWS Skywalker marks a new chapter for IWS Fleet, where we will showcase our operational capabilities. IWS Fleet is committed to sustainable and efficient operations, and we look forward to starting our first charter contract for the Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the first quarter.’
