Monthly help between father and daughter shows why recurring family transfers need to be correctly reported on Income Tax

A monthly transfer of R$ 1,500 via Pix made by a father to help his daughter with rent ended up becoming a concern in the Income Tax declaration.

The young woman also received about R$ 1,500 per month from informal work. Therefore, at the end of 12 months, her account totaled R$ 36,000 in transactions.

Of this total, half came from her own work. The other half was family help. However, since the amounts sent by the father were not declared, a possible fiscal incompatibility arose.

Father’s monthly help seemed simple, but required attention in the declaration

The situation started in a common way in many Brazilian families. The daughter lived in a rented place, tried to organize her finances, and received support from her father every month.

Moreover, the money was sent without a contract, receipt, or any formality. It was just family help to cover basic expenses.

However, for the tax authorities, frequent transfers may need explanation. After all, the money enters the account and can be compared with the declared amounts.

Federal Revenue may question the difference between income and transactions

The problem appeared at Income Tax time. The daughter declared only what she considered her own income, related to informal work.

However, the R$ 18,000 sent by the father during the year was not reported as a received donation.

As a result, the bank transactions were higher than the declared income. Thus, the situation could lead to a request for clarification, rectification, and possible fiscal analysis.

According to the Federal Revenue, in a clarification released in April 2026, the agency does not receive data on individual transactions via Pix. Furthermore, it does not identify the payment method used by the taxpayer.

Even so, the Revenue can analyze inconsistencies between income, assets, transactions, and declared information.

Donations between family members must also be reported

The point that surprises many families is that money sent regularly by father, mother, grandparents, or other relatives can be treated as a donation.

In this case, the amount must be reported in the declaration of the recipient, under the section Exempt and Non-Taxable Income.

Additionally, the person who sent the money must also declare the amount as a donation made.

Therefore, in the case of the young woman, the R$ 18,000 received from the father should be separated from the R$ 18,000 obtained from informal work.

ITCMD can also be considered

Besides the federal Income Tax, there is the ITCMD, a state tax applied to donations.

Each state defines its own rules, exemption limits, and methods of collection. Therefore, depending on the annual amount, it may be necessary to consult the state Department of Finance.

Even when there is no charge, document organization remains important. After all, it helps to prove the origin of the money.

What this story teaches Brazilian families

The main lesson is simple: receiving Pix from a relative is not a problem, but the origin of the money needs to be clear.

When the help is monthly, it is ideal to keep receipts, separate work income from family donations, and correctly fill out the declaration.

In this way, parents and children avoid doubts, corrections, fines, and unnecessary notifications.

In the end, help given out of care does not need to become a headache. However, for this to happen, it needs to be handled with organization when declaring the Income Tax.

Did you know that monthly help from the family via Pix may also need to appear in the Income Tax declaration?
