SC-120 Is Delivered Fully Revitalized After Investment of R$ 131 Million, Enhancing Safety, Improving Traffic, and Accelerating the Flow of Regional Production
The delivery of the revitalization of SC-120, between Curitibanos and Lebon Régis, marked an important moment for the Midwest region of Santa Catarina. The work, completed this Saturday (29) in Curitibanos, reinforced the relevance of the highway for the flow of regional production, as structural problems had hindered daily traffic for years, affecting drivers and businesses.
The deteriorated sections, combined with a lack of maintenance, made the road a critical point for residents and truck drivers.
Potholes, unevenness, and constant wear and tear created insecurity and hindered local development. Therefore, the revitalization had been awaited for decades, according to the community itself.

Thailand abandoned plans to cut through the country with a canal and chose a $28 billion mega-project on land: the Southern Landbridge will have 90 km, two giant ports, a railway, a highway, and pipelines to connect two seas and challenge the Strait of Malacca without handing over the strategic route to China.

Mali wants to open a path to the ocean by digging a 900 km waterway through the Senegal River: an $800 million project promises to reduce logistics costs by up to 60%, create a direct route to the Atlantic, and transform gold exports from one of Africa’s most isolated countries without relying on roads or railways.

A study in China revealed that the rubber seals that seal the submerged tunnels under the sea degrade much faster than previously thought when salinity and constant compression act together, losing up to 67% of their sealing strength over their lifespan, although existing structures are not at immediate risk.
“We don’t have words to thank for this great delivery. A revitalization that has been awaited for decades, where governors came and went, but no one addressed our demand,” said the mayor of Curitibanos and president of Amurc, Kleberson Luciano Lima.
Highway Received Investment Exceeding R$ 130 Million
The intervention was considered one of the most expensive in Santa Catarina. The total cost reached R$ 131 million.
The project involved complete recovery of the pavement, reinforcement of infrastructure, complementary works, and expansion of traffic capacity. In addition, the improvement is expected to have a direct impact on the regional economy.
With 54 kilometers recovered, the expectation is that the connection between the two municipalities will gain more agility. This should also facilitate daily transportation and reduce risks on the road.

What Changed on SC-120
Earthworks, paving, and restoration of flexible pavement were some of the actions taken. There was also the installation of rigid pavement over five kilometers between Lebon Régis and the access to SC-350.
Four intersections received specific improvements: km 165+000, km 166+300, km 198+520, and km 246+550.
Another point included was the construction of shoulders with 1.5 meters. Wheel cleaning systems were also installed, and truck shelters were built.
“SC-120 is back, and now it is worthy of those who live, work, and produce in this land,” declared Governor Jorginho Mello. He highlighted the Good Road Program as the basis for the intervention.

Official Closing of the Work
The delivery was marked by the unveiling of the inaugural plaque. Attending were the Deputy Secretary of State for Infrastructure and Mobility, Ricardo Grando, the mayor of Curitibanos, and the mayor of Lebon Régis, Marcelo Spautz.
