Discover Why Young People Are Accumulating Jobs and Learn the Benefits and Risks That Define This New Way of Working.

The practice of having multiple jobs, known as “politrabalho”, has exploded as a trend, being massively embraced by the Generation Z. A survey by Paychex is categorical: 93% of young people in this generation split their time and talent between more than one employer. This movement goes far beyond extra income, signaling a revolution in how new generations build their careers.

What is “Politrabalho” and Why Does Generation Z Lead This Trend?

Politrabalho defines the practice of maintaining two or more professional activities at the same time. Unlike temporary work, this approach is often strategic. Generation Z leads the movement because it is a generation that seeks, above all, more flexibility, autonomy, and purpose in what they do, values that a single traditional job often cannot offer.

The Motivations Behind Multiple Jobs

Although financial necessity is a relevant trigger, the motivations are deeper. Professionals from Generation Z use politrabalho to explore different areas of interest, accelerate learning, and build a more diverse career. Dissatisfaction with corporate rigidity and the desire for greater control over their own schedules are equally powerful forces behind this choice.

The Challenges of Accumulating Roles

However, accumulating jobs comes at a price. The most evident risk is work overload, which can lead to physical and mental exhaustion, known as burnout. In addition, there are practical and legal challenges. Many employment contracts contain clauses that prohibit a second job, especially with competitors, which can open doors to intellectual property disputes over the work you do.

How Companies Should Adapt to the Reality of Politr trabalho

Ignoring this trend is not an option for companies that wish to retain talent from Generation Z. Adaptation involves management focused on transparent and frequent communication to build trust. It is crucial to offer more flexibility and, above all, focus on productivity by outcomes, not hours worked, recognizing that talent may not be exclusive, but delivering results is what matters.
