Custom-developed for an owner who insists on commanding their own yacht, the Zeelander 8 Solea challenges the traditional concept of superyachts by combining generous dimensions, cutting-edge technology, impressive performance, and simplified operation, eliminating the need for a permanent crew.

While most yachts of approximately 24 meters are designed to operate with a dedicated team of sailors and staff, the Zeelander 8 Solea was born with a different proposal. As published by the specialized magazine Boating NZ, the model was developed especially for an owner who wished to continue sailing independently, even after moving to a significantly larger vessel. The yacht will be officially presented to the public during the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, which takes place between September 23 and 26, in Monaco.

The result is a highly customized project that combines the expected comfort of a superyacht with technologies that allow the owner to take command of the vessel without relying on a fixed crew for much of the journeys.

The experience on the Zeelander 7 inspired a fully customized project

The idea of the Solea began long before its construction.

Its owner had already spent weeks living aboard a Zeelander 7, using the vessel for both work and leisure, always operating the yacht without a permanent crew.

This experience served as the basis for the development of the new project.

According to Sietse Koopmans, founder and president of Zeelander Yachts, the client came to the shipyard knowing exactly which features they wanted to maintain and which should be expanded in a larger model.

The executive defines the Solea as one of the most customized projects ever produced by the Dutch manufacturer.

Naturally, increasing the size of the vessel brings new challenges.

A larger hull typically requires more people to assist with maneuvers, docking, and managing the various onboard systems.

To reduce this need, the Zeelander 8 received technological features such as joystick docking system and gyroscopic stabilization, solutions that make driving much simpler for the owner.

While there is still space to accommodate crew when desired, the project was designed so that they are not indispensable during all trips.

According to Koopmans, many owners value precisely this autonomy.

For those who already manage teams in a professional environment, sailing without staff on board represents a more relaxing experience, without schedules to coordinate or teams to manage.

Superyacht delivers 4,000 hp, 40 knots of speed, and autonomy of up to 2,700 nautical miles

Besides the unique operational proposal, the Solea also impresses with its numbers.

It is the most powerful and fastest Zeelander 8 ever produced by the manufacturer.

The model uses four Volvo Penta IPS-1350 engines, delivering a combined power of 4,000 horsepower.

During sea trials, the vessel reached a maximum speed of 40 knots, an unprecedented mark for the model.

Even with this performance, the manufacturer reports that the internal noise level remains at just 65 dBA at full throttle, allowing passengers to converse normally while sailing.

The autonomy is also noteworthy.

According to Zeelander, the Solea can cover approximately:

  • 630 nautical miles cruising at 32 knots;
  • 2,700 nautical miles at an economical speed of 7 knots.

These numbers make the model suitable for both quick trips and long crossings.

Layout prioritizes socializing, comfort, and integration between environments

The interior of the Solea also deviates from the traditional solutions adopted in many superyachts.

Instead of concentrating the main space around a bar, the salon was organized around a large dining table, reflecting the owner’s preference for hosting guests during anchored periods.

Another highlight is the kitchen integrated into the main area.

Without partitions, those preparing meals remain part of the conversations, creating a more relaxed atmosphere.

The traditional curved sliding windows of Zeelander connect the salon directly to the aft deck, enhancing the sense of integration between indoor and outdoor spaces.

At the rear of the vessel, the owner chose to replace the traditional bar with a large “L” shaped sofa, inspired by his favorite spot aboard the old Zeelander 7.

The solution reinforces the concept of comfort aimed at prolonged stays on board.

Exclusive finish, internal garage, and world debut in Monaco

The finish follows a more sober line than that used in other recent models of the brand.

For the first time, Zeelander employed Swamp Oak wood throughout the yacht’s interior.

The material is combined with premium leather upholstery and details inspired by the Porsche Agate shade, while the gray metallic hull reinforces the elegant and discreet proposal.

Another highlight is the organization of nautical equipment.

Instead of occupying space on the deck, the Williams 435 Jet Tender, along with equipment like Seabobs and flyboards, remains stored in side compartments integrated into the hull.

This solution preserves the external aesthetics of the vessel and improves passenger circulation.

The public debut of the Zeelander 8 Solea will take place during the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, from September 23 to 26, when visitors will be able to see up close the third example of the model produced since its launch.

Combining luxury, performance, technology, and an uncommon proposal in the segment, the Solea demonstrates that a 24-meter superyacht can offer a much more independent experience without sacrificing comfort and sophistication.

And you, would you sail on a superyacht without a permanent crew, or do you still prefer to have a dedicated team to handle the entire operation? Share your opinion in the comments.
