Detran-SP Recently Announced the Deadlines for Licensing 2024. Check the Specific Dates for Licensing Plates This Year and the Different Payment Methods Available.
On July 1st, Licensing 2024 began for the renewal of the CRLV in São Paulo. The document issued annually by the São Paulo Traffic Department (Detran-SP) is mandatory for the circulation of vehicles. Payments apply to both new and used models and must be made by December, according to the last digit of the license plate.
Understand How Licensing of Plates Works
The Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate (CRLV), commonly known simply as “car document,” is one of the most important documents to drive legally. With it, you can drive peacefully, knowing you are in compliance with all legal obligations for your vehicle and that you can prove it. Given its importance, it is normal for Licensing 2024 to raise many questions. Therefore, we will briefly clarify some information.
The CRLV issued by Detran-SP and other states is the document that certifies that your vehicle, regardless of category, is up to date with all obligations and can circulate without concerns. It contains information such as personal data, vehicle data including make, model, year of manufacture, color, license plate number, and the number of the National Register of Motor Vehicles (Renavam), as well as IPVA and DPVAT data.

The price of the CRLV will depend on the licensing fee for the state in which you live, in addition to ensuring that you are also up to date with the IPVA, all Licensing documents, and related expenses. It’s essential to remember that CRV and CRLV are different; in summary, we can say that CRV is the vehicle’s registration, and CRLV is the permission for the vehicle to circulate.
How Much Does Licensing 2024 Detran-SP Cost?
The licensing fee for plates this year is R$ 160.22, a 3% increase compared to last year, when it cost R$ 155.23. Vehicles with license plate endings 1 and 2 need to regularize their situation by the end of the month.
Therefore, the owner who does not complete Licensing 2024 commits a serious infraction and receives seven points on their National Driver’s License (CNH) record.
As a result, a fine of R$ 293.47 must be paid, and if the vehicle is taken to the Detran-SP yard, the owner will have to pay daily fees. Also, the licensing is blocked, as provided by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB). Cars, buses, trailers, and semi-trailers must regularize by the following dates:
- July: license plate endings 1 and 2;
- August: license plate endings 3 and 4;
- September: license plate endings 5 and 6;
- October: license plate endings 7 and 8;
- November: license plate ending 9;
- December: license plate ending 0.
- For trucks and tractors, the due dates are as follows:
- September: license plate endings 1 and 2;
- October: license plate endings 3, 4, and 5;

- December: license plate endings 9 and 0.
How to Make the Payment Online?
You can pay the Detran-SP plate licensing fee at lottery houses, as well as at ATMs of some banks (Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, Caixa Econômica Federal, Itaú, Safra, and Santander).
Similarly, it is possible to pay online. In this case, simply provide the National Vehicle Register (Renavam) number and pay the tax via internet banking or apps.
Finally, it is important to remember that Licensing 2024 becomes unavailable if there are pending issues with the vehicle. For example, open debts for the Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA), fines, and overdue licensing fees.
