Selection of Free Training in Four Areas, with Registrations Starting on September 18 and Exam on October 26 in the Locations of Natal, Angicos, Caicó, and Pau dos Ferros.

The Digital Metropolis Institute (IMD), from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, published on this Monday, September 15, 2025, the public notice 003/2025 of the selection process for 720 spots in technical courses in Information Technology. The opportunities are for entry in the 2026.1 semester and include both EAD and in-person modality. According to UFRN and Comperve, registrations will open on 09/18 and will be done online, with a fee of R$ 30.

The announcement reinforces the expansion of free public training in IT in the state, with spots distributed across four cities. The IMD is a regional reference in training for the sector, and the maintenance of an annual notice with objective evaluation helps provide predictability for those planning to enter the field.

For this cycle, the selection will follow a single test format, facilitating the comparison between candidates from different locations. The official document also indicates criteria for inclusive access, with 50% of the spots reserved for graduates from the public network, social quotas, and people with disabilities.

Where Are the Spots and What Courses Are Available

The spots are distributed between Natal (600) and the locations of Angicos, Caicó, and Pau dos Ferros (40 each). In Natal, in addition to the distance learning programs, there will be an in-person Artificial Intelligence course. In the rural locations, the free courses available online include Internet Computing, Digital Game Programming, and Computer Networks. Natal has all courses, including the AI course.

The emphasis on the hybrid model responds to the demand for flexibility and increased reach. In terms of employability, the offered tracks cover foundational technical competencies, with the potential for rapid entry into the regional IT market.

According to the announcement from the IMD and UFRN, the offering of in-person AI in Natal aims to deepen practical skills in modeling, data, and algorithms, complementing the EAD tracks focused on web development, gaming, and network infrastructure.

Who Can Apply and How Will the Selection Be

Students who have completed or are currently attending high school, as well as those finishing the 9th grade of elementary school, can apply. The exam is scheduled for October 26, 2025, featuring 40 multiple-choice questions divided into two axes: “Critical Thinking, Computational Thinking, and Problem Solving” and “Essential Mathematics”.

The assessment format aims to gauge logical reasoning, analytical skills, and mathematical fundamentals essential for technical careers in IT. Candidates should consider organizing a study plan focused on problem solving and mathematical contents that frequently appear in technical notices.

The reservation of 50% of the spots for public network, social quotas, and PWD remains as a guideline for inclusion in the process. The other spots are open for widespread competition. This policy enhances access for historically underrepresented profiles in the technology sector.

Shortage of IT Professionals Accelerates the Search for Training in RN

The Brazilian market faces a chronic labor shortage in careers related to IT, programming, and artificial intelligence. Companies compete for talent in automation, data, and cybersecurity projects, and many selection processes remain open for months without filling all vacancies. In Rio Grande do Norte, the ecosystem linked to the IMD and the Digital Metropolis Technological Park feels this pressure daily.

The shortage is not only in quantity but also in specific qualifications. Teams need people who know how to program, work with networks, cloud, data analysis, and AI models, as well as communication and problem-solving skills. Without this foundation, projects delay, costs rise, and innovation loses momentum.

In this scenario, public initiatives such as the 720 technical spots from the IMD directly address the bottleneck. Practical courses, with tracks in Programming, Networks, Internet Computing, and AI, create a fast entry point for those looking to change fields or take their first step into technology. The expectation is to increase the number of professionals capable of meeting the demand in RN and strengthen the sector in the coming semesters.

Deadlines, Documentation, and Alert Regarding Schedule Adjustments

The notice stipulates that those approved in the 1st call must submit documentation between December 8 and 10, 2025. The 2nd call must be announced by December 19. These milestones are important to avoid losing any spots due to delays in submitting documents.

Comperve published the revisions of the notice and the schedule on September 16, 2025, one day after the announcement. Candidates should pay attention to any date adjustments or administrative procedures outlined in the revisions.

As is customary in technical selections from UFRN, all stages and official communications are centralized in the channels of Comperve and the UFRN Portal. Therefore, keep an eye on possible updates regarding exam locations, demand for locations, and instructions for registration.

Do you think the fee of R$ 30 is appropriate for a public process that promises to expand access to training in IT? And does the fact that in-person Artificial Intelligence is available only in Natal benefit or hinder those from the countryside? Leave your opinion in the comments.
