EDP Brazil’s Solar Power Plant Will Supply Electricity to Seven Smart Fit Gym Units in Minas Gerais
EDP Brazil announced that it has completed the construction of a solar power plant capable of generating 1,699 MWh per year, equivalent to the demand of about 700 households in Minas Gerais. The investment was R$ 2.2 million and the saving of 24.3% does not take into account tax collection.

Minas Gerais is the state that produces the most electricity through micro and mini photovoltaic generation plants. In centralized generation, there are 529.1 megawatts (MW) already in operation and more than 5.2 GW contracted, while in distributed generation, the state has 790.7 MW installed.
EDP Smart Plans to Invest R$ 300 Million Annually in Solar Energy in Brazil
The investment plans of the Portuguese EDP are all about sunshine. Through EDP Smart, the company aims to triple its current investment from R$ 100 million to R$ 300 million annually in the solar energy sector in Brazil, which will represent 38% of the Brazilian electrical matrix by 2050. Currently, the company has 29 MWp of installed capacity in the country and 59 MWp in sold projects.
According to Carlos Andrade, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at EDP, Brazil is a place in the world with the greatest growth potential in the solar energy sector.
“We want to be close to the end customer, both for companies and individuals, and we will invest in centralized generation as well,” commented the executive, noting that it is not of interest to the company to provide energy for the system as a whole, but for the end customer, such as commerce, industry, and in conjunction with EDP Renovables.
For the B2B segment, the company seeks long-term contracts, between 10 and 15 years. “It is important to establish a long-term relationship with our customers,” said the executive.
