122 MW Plant Will Be Dedicated to Consumption of Subway and Train Lines in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte; Agreement Reinforces Commitment to Self-Production of Clean Energy in the Transportation Sector
Electra and Comporte have just signed a strategic agreement to implement a wind power plant with an installed capacity of 122 megawatts (MW), which will be used for self-production of energy for railway lines in the metropolitan areas of São Paulo and Belo Horizonte.
The project, scheduled to go into operation in 2027, aims to supply about 52 average MW for the operation of trains and subways run by Comporte, marking a groundbreaking advance in the adoption of renewable sources in the urban public transportation sector.
The request for approval of the partnership was submitted at the beginning of the week to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) and is awaiting regulatory validation.

Renewable Energy Gains Strength in Rail Transport
The initiative is seen as a watershed moment for urban rail transport. The energy generated by the future wind plant will be used exclusively in the public concessions under Comporte’s responsibility in the two capitals.
For Henrique Constantino, president of the Comporte group, the decision represents a new positioning for the company:
“This is an important step that definitively places the Comporte group on the path of renewable energy in Brazil.”
Partnership Boosts Electra’s Self-Production Efforts
With a strong presence in the free energy market, Electra is expanding its operations in self-generation by leading this wind project in partnership with Comporte.
The president of Electra, Cláudio Fabiano Alves, highlights the strategic importance of the collaboration:
“The partnership marks the beginning of an important phase of connection between energy and the transportation sector, as well as consolidating the group’s efforts in developing self-production projects.”
Accelerated Expansion and New Investments in Distributed Generation
The year 2025 is already marked by significant movements from Electra. The company acquired the startup Enliv Energia, focused on serving distributed generation (DG) customers at low voltage, and also purchased 13 plants from Copel.
Both moves reinforce the growth strategy in the decentralized energy sector.
The previous year, in 2024, the company partnered with Acelen and Perfin to develop a 161 MW photovoltaic solar energy project in Bahia, also in self-production mode, with dedicated supply to Acelen.
The execution was the responsibility of Illian Energias Renováveis, a subsidiary of Electra.
Electra Solidifies Leadership in Clean Energy and Innovation
Headquartered in Curitiba (PR) and with over two decades of operation, Electra Energy is one of the largest independent energy traders in the country.
In 2023, it was recognized as the fourth largest energy company in Paraná in the “500 Largest in the South” ranking, compiled by Grupo Amanhã in partnership with PwC.
Since its foundation, the company has adopted ESG practices, having been one of the pioneers in negotiating energy from incentivized sources and in trading carbon credits in the free market.
The company has traded over 100 TWh and is also composed of the companies Directa Energia, Electra Renováveis, and Illian Energias Renováveis.
