With Rising Prices of Solar Energy, Eletrobras Expands Its Presence in the Free Market and Invests in New Strategies to Strengthen Itself in the Sector!
After three years of historically low prices, the energy market in Brazil is undergoing a surprising turnaround. Eletrobras, one of the giants in the electric sector, is already noticing this new trend and is moving to take full advantage of the opportunities arising from the increased value of energy.
Change in the Scenario: From Stability to Volatility
Between 2022 and mid-2024, energy prices were at all-time lows, ranging from R$ 60 to R$ 70 per megawatt-hour (MWh).
However, throughout 2025, the sector witnessed a significant turnaround, with values reaching impressive R$ 330/MWh at certain points.

This change took many by surprise, including those within the market itself. “There was a false sense that the system was balanced. For over two years, prices remained at the floor, and many believed this would last forever,” commented Eduardo Haiama, CFO of Eletrobras.
Contracts for energy supply in 2026, which were traded at R$ 155/MWh in early 2024, have already surpassed R$ 200/MWh, reflecting increased demand, changes in supply, and greater volatility in the sector.
Eletrobras Positions Itself for Growth
With this rise, Eletrobras sees a unique opportunity to expand its business. The company still has a significant volume of energy available for trading in the free market.
For 2025, between 2% and 18% of its generation capacity remains uncontracted. In 2026, that number rises to 20% to 32%, and by 2027, it could reach 46%.
Itaú BBA highlighted this movement in a recent report, stating that “with the rise in energy prices, Eletrobras may have accelerated its sales during the first quarter of 2025.”
To enhance its operations, the company has structured a sales team in São Paulo, one of the main hubs of the free energy market in Brazil.
The strategy has already borne fruit: the number of clients soared to 660 contracts, a growth of 65% compared to the end of 2023.
The Future of Energy and the Expansion of Renewable Sources
The appreciation of energy is not happening by chance. The global energy transition, the need for more flexibility in supply, and the increase in demand for renewable sources, such as solar energy, are factors that directly impact the sector.
The free energy market is in full expansion, paving the way for companies like Eletrobras to broaden their horizons and diversify their businesses.
The growth of solar energy trading in Brazil reinforces this trend, allowing for greater competitiveness and innovation in the electric sector.
Although Eletrobras has yet to disclose exact forecasts for the coming months, analysts indicate that the company may be entering a cycle of strong profitability.
With a more aggressive strategy and a keen eye on new market opportunities, the company is positioning itself as one of the main players in the national energy sector, ready to grow and establish itself as a reference in the energy market in Brazil.
