Elon Musk, the world's richest man, may be about to surprise the football world. With a fortune of US$421 billion, the billionaire is reportedly considering buying Liverpool, valued at US$5,37 billion. Could this be the eccentric tycoon's next move?

Could Elon Musk, the world's richest man, be the next tycoon to transform European football?

Amidst rumors and speculation, an intriguing possibility is circulating in England: Musk is reportedly eyeing Liverpool FC, one of the most traditional and valuable clubs on the planet.

Does the idea sound absurd? Maybe. But when it comes to the eccentric billionaire who revolutionized entire industries, nothing seems impossible.

With a fortune estimated at impressive US$421 billion by Forbes, Musk could not only buy Liverpool, but several elite clubs in world football, if he so desired.

But what motivates the man behind Tesla, SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) to enter the football world?

According to reports from the land of the Queen, Musk would have considered an offer to acquire the “Reds”, as the passionate fans of Liverpool FC are known.

Why Liverpool?

Liverpool is a giant of world football and ranks fourth among the most valuable clubs on the planet, with an estimated US $ 5,37 billion (2024 data).

The team, which has already won six European Champions League titles, continues to be a reference on and off the field.

These numbers, added to the global passion that football arouses, make the club a major investment for visionary billionaires like Musk.

The interest in Liverpool doesn't come out of nowhere either. In 2023, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which has controlled the club since 2010, even considered selling it for around 4 billion pounds.

Although the sale proposal was later withdrawn, the speculation reignited curiosity about the club's future, attracting potential buyers such as Musk.

Musk and football: an unlikely combination?

This isn't the first time Elon Musk's name has been associated with the world's most popular sport.

Recent rumors have indicated that he has already shown interest in acquiring another club in England, but the name of that team has never been revealed.

Although the billionaire is known for his futuristic initiatives, such as space exploration and electric cars, his involvement with football seems closer than many imagine.

Some experts speculate that Musk's entry into football could be a strategy to further expand his global influence and diversify his investments.

Others believe it is simply a whim of someone used to breaking paradigms.

The most valuable clubs in the world

If Musk does indeed move forward with buying Liverpool, he will be entering a market dominated by astronomical figures.

Check out the updated ranking of the most valuable football clubs:

  1. Real Madrid – $6,6 billion
  2. Manchester United – $6,5 billion
  3. Barcelona – $6 billion
  4. Liverpool – $5,37 billion
  5. Manchester City – $5,1 billion

These numbers are dynamic and may vary each season, depending on the sporting performance and financial management of each club.

Liverpool's next challenges

In the short term, Liverpool has a much more concrete mission than possible changes of ownership: the fight for the leadership of the Premier League.

In their next match, the “Reds” will face Manchester United at Anfield Road.

A win will put the team in a comfortable position, eight points clear in European football's most competitive league.

What can we expect?

A Elon Musk's possibility acquiring Liverpool is undoubtedly fascinating and raises a number of questions about the future of football as a business.

Can Musk bring the same disruptive innovation he has applied to other sectors? Or is this just another speculation in the long list of rumors involving the billionaire?
