StoreDot, company from India, announced the development of a new battery that will have the capacity to charge 160 km of range in just 5 minutes of charging. The company is partnered with companies like Volvo, Mercedes, and many more.
One of the major obstacles related to better “acceptance” of electric cars, besides the high initial investment, is the range and delay in charging the batteries sold in the market. Aiming to overcome this challenge, several companies are working on battery projects, but so far, the most advanced in this regard is the company StoreDot, which recently confirmed that it is about to launch a battery that uses only 5 minutes of charging to generate a range of 160 km.
StoreDot’s Electric Car Battery Will Continue to Evolve in the Coming Years
The Israeli company claims to meet all its proposed goals throughout this year, and this has enabled it to continue with the strategy of launching products in the market in 2024. Thus, it is to be expected that soon the Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) batteries will be available.
The cell being developed by the company is also known by the acronym 100 in 5, meaning 100 miles (160.93 km) of range in just 5 minutes at a charging station. With this evolution, one of the major obstacles to the use of electric vehicles would be resolved, considering that long waiting times for recharging will no longer exist.

StoreDot is still confident that its technology will continue to evolve in the coming years, with products that have been referred to as 100 in 3 and 100 in 2, where the number 100 always represents the gain in terms of range, while 3 and 2 are related to the duration of the recharge in minutes, respectively.
New Technology Can Support Up to 1700 Cycles
The StoreDot batteries are not only impressive in terms of charging speed. In the laboratories of the Israeli company, cells with a density of 300 Wh/kg have been developed that have proven resistant to up to 1,200 cycles.
In both cases, these are record values, or nearly record values. Indeed, the company claims that there are new technologies in development that will allow the cells to maintain good performance over 1,700 cycles. The technical characteristics of these batteries, along with their charging speed, have made StoreDot an interesting proposition for various automakers and electric vehicle companies.
Ola Electric, an Indian company that manufactures electric vehicles, such as scooters and soon cars, has financed StoreDot with a multimillion-dollar sum. However, Volvo, alongside its affiliate Polestar, has financially supported the company’s activities. The Scandinavian brands are joining others, like Mercedes and VinFast, companies confident in their ability to produce XFC batteries on a large scale within a reasonable timeframe.
Company Announces Field Tests
Indeed, as 2022 comes to a close, the progress made by the company has been significant. In recent months, the company has shown for the first time in videos what it can achieve in terms of charging speed, proving that the 100 in 5 name is real.
Then, in September, it even made battery prototypes available to the automakers involved in the project, such as Volvo, Polestar, VinFast, and Mercedes, to begin testing under real conditions. It is not yet possible to measure the results that are coming. However, it can be stated that at this pace, next year the public will hear more about ultrafast charging, and in 2024, it will probably be possible to test the new battery in production electric cars.
