Costa Tried to Participate in July in an Auction of Eike Batista’s Debts but Was Blocked for Not Presenting the Necessary Guarantees.
Renato da Cruz Costa, owner of RC Group, who tried to get Eike Batista out of trouble and offered R$1.9 billion upfront for the former billionaire’s debentures, is being accused of fraud by the Brazilian startup Agrothings, which provides technological solutions for agriculture.
Costa tried to participate in July in an auction of Eike Batista’s debts but was blocked for not presenting the necessary guarantees.
According to Denille Molina and Tiago Diogenes, owners of Agrothings, created by the entrepreneurs in 2017, Costa sent an email in August 2020 expressing his interest in the startup and indicating his interest in investing US$ 1 million in it.

IBGE data shows that Brazilians are increasingly far from owning their own homes: rents are skyrocketing, apartments are taking over the capitals, and the Selic rate at 15% makes financing almost prohibitive.
The entrepreneurs filed a police report at the Carapicuíba (SP) sectional police station in October 2021. According to them, Costa said that in order to invest the promised amount, it would be necessary to establish a headquarters for Agrothing in the United States, which would have to be funded by Denille and Tiago.
The startup’s entrepreneurs state that they invested US$ 7,220 (R$ 37,500) in this process but never received the promised investment of US$ 1 million.
In defense, RC Group informed UOL, through its press office, that it is “conducting the investigation of occurrences of administrative and bureaucratic problems related to the alleged accusations made by entrepreneurs.”
The company reiterates that “so far, it has not officially received complaints regarding any irregularities in negotiations, nor any notices from public authorities or the Brazilian or American Justice.”
The group stated in a note that “the victim and the owner of the company have already been heard. The investigations continue aiming for clarification of the facts.”
