Located 200 Km South of São Luís, the Gavião Field Will Have Immense Gas Production Capacity
Eneva, a renowned integrated energy company and one of the leading private natural gas operators in Brazil, announced the start of production at the Gavião Tesoura field, located in the Parnaíba Basin in Maranhão. This milestone represents a significant step in the company’s consolidation of its leadership in the sector, according to Petronotícias.
The new Gavião Tesoura field (GVTE) stands out with an initial estimated potential for the production of 1 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, as presented to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). Its location encompasses the municipalities of São Luís Gonzaga, Bacabal, and Bom Lugar, situated approximately 200 km south of São Luís.
Equipped with six wells, all already capable of production, the GVTE comes to life after about 5 years since the confirmation of its commercial viability, in September 2018, and marks its production starting from well 7-GVTE-2D-MA, in July 2023.

Eneva in the Gaviões Park and Energy Potential
The GVTE is the seventh field to begin production in Gaviões Park, part of an integrated network that also includes the fields of Gavião Mateiro (GVM), Gavião Belo (GVBL), Gavião Carijó (GVCA), and Gavião Branco Norte (GVBN). With certified 2P (proven and probable) reserves of 3.266 billion cubic meters, Eneva consolidates a total of 33 billion cubic meters of 2P gas reserves in the Parnaíba Basin.
Recently released in the ANP’s Annual Exploration Report, the Parnaíba Basin and Eneva itself emerge as leaders in onshore Exploration and Production activities in Brazil, responsible for 10 of the 17 exploratory wells drilled in 2022.
Eneva and the Commitment to Exploration and Energy Efficiency
Eneva reinforces its continuous exploration strategy, with notable successes in the production of the GVTE and the prospect of new discoveries that will add to the portfolio in the near future. The emphasis on the Parnaíba Basin is highlighted by the ANP, which notes the drilling of wells every year in the historical series. Frederico Miranda, Exploration Director at Eneva, emphasizes that this effort aligns with the commitment to expand onshore reserves and the energy security of the country, following the established reservoir-to-wire model, which aims for greater efficiency and reduced costs.
Eneva emerges as a central figure in the energy landscape of Brazil, not only consolidating its gas reserves but also contributing to the economy of the regions where it operates. Its exploratory efforts and impressive results solidify its position as one of the key players in onshore exploration and production, paving the way for a more robust and sustainable future in the energy field.
