Enel Green Power, from the Italian energy group Enel, received authorization to start the commercial operation of two solar generation projects in Brazil, both in Piauí.

According to information recently released by the Aneel – Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica in the Official Gazette of the Union, the Italian company Enel Green Power and companies controlled by the French group Engie were authorized to start the commercial operation of seven solar energy generation plants in the Northeast.

The two solar power plants that received authorization this morning (14) add up to a total of 96MW in energy capacity. Previously, Enel Green Power stated that it was working to expand one of its solar complexes in the near future, the company wants to add a total of 608MW in solar energy potential.

In total, Enel Green Power and Engie already have more than 60 solar energy projects on national soil, 3,7 GW in total solar energy potential if you combine all the company's renewable energy projects. Finally, Engie previously entered into a partnership with the renewable generation company BC Energia for the construction of seven solar photovoltaic plants.

The Enel and Engie plants are intended for distributed generation and will be installed in the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais and the Federal District. The plants will have an installed capacity of 10,8 MWp. Together, they will add 21 GWh/year to BC Energia's installed power generation capacity, which will reach 35,5 GWh in 2021 – corresponding to the supply of 20 homes.

Solar energy in Brazil

The benefit of savings and reduction of (possibly) almost all the cost in electricity bills is certainly the main advantage for all consumers who purchase a solar energy system in Brazil.

This is because, through the rules of own energy generation, the consumer who installs a system has the option of connecting it to the local distributor's electrical network and starting to exchange the generated energy for the energy consumed by the same.

Thus, all the energy consumed in your home comes directly or indirectly from your system, thus managing to save up to 95% on your electricity bill.
