An emerald valued at R$ 2 billion is kept under a strict security scheme in a bunker in São Paulo. The block weighing 241 kilograms, extracted in August from Serra da Carnaíba in northern Bahia, is considered one of the largest and most valuable formations of its kind ever found in Brazil.

The electronic auction for the stone, organized by Positivo Leilões, remains open until October 28, with a minimum bid of R$ 105 million.

The mineral jewel belongs to Agropecuária Vale Rico Ltda., and for security reasons, the address where the piece is stored remains under absolute secrecy.

The space that houses the emerald was designed to withstand invasions. To reach the main vault, it is necessary to pass through five rooms with biometric control and constant surveillance.

The bunker door is armored and equipped with sensors that detect any unauthorized presence.

If someone attempts to breach the perimeter, an automatic defense system is triggered in less than ten seconds, releasing a dense curtain of smoke accompanied by sound and light alarms.

According to the responsible security company, the mechanism aims to disorient invaders and protect the asset valued in billions.

Rare Emerald Impresses Experts

The emerald block measures about 90 centimeters in height and 40 centimeters in width, being composed of schist and quartz formed over millions of years.

It is estimated that nearly half of its mass, between 110 and 120 kilograms, is made up of natural emerald crystals.

According to gemologist Norman Michael Rodi, a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the stones display balanced colors, excellent preservation, and the classic translucent green tone that has made Brazilian emeralds renowned.

“The emeralds in this block have size and weight above average, with shades ranging from soft green to intense emerald green,” Rodi explained in a technical report.

Auctioneer Erick Soares Teles emphasizes that it is a geological rarity. “It is uncommon to find an emerald block of this magnitude and degree of preservation. We are facing a unique piece, a true spectacle to the eyes,” he stated.

Million-Dollar Auction And Strict Rules

The electronic auction began on September 18 and was extended due to the lack of initial bids.

The piece remains available on the Positivo Leilões platform, with expectations of attracting international investors and collectors.

The winner must pay 5% of the value as a down payment within 48 hours and settle the rest within five business days. They will also be responsible for all transportation costs, fees, and taxes.

The pickup of the piece must occur within 15 days after payment, subject to a daily fine of R$ 5,000 in case of delay.

Origin And Legality Of The Emerald

The block was discovered by garimpeiros linked to the Cooperativa Mineral da Bahia (CMB) in Serra da Carnaíba, a region that has been recognized for decades as one of the main emerald extraction hubs in the world.

Positivo Leilões reported that the commercialization process follows all Brazilian legal norms.

The owner obtained the necessary authorizations for sale, ensuring transparency and compliance with regulatory agencies.

Located in Pindobaçu, in northern Bahia, Serra da Carnaíba has been famous since the 1960s when the first deposits were found.
