Graphene foam was demonstrated today with the presence of authorities, including Minister Marcos Pontes. know more
Graphene foam was presented at Rio Innovation Week, a technology and innovation event taking place in Rio de Janeiro.
The event, this year, has a very interesting participation by public universities and other research centers in the country, which are exhibited in the Vila da Ciência, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Today's demonstration was attended by the Minister, astronaut Marcos Pontes, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, authorities and professors, in addition to those responsible for the new technologies being demonstrated. Graphene foam was developed in the graduate program in Process Engineering and Technologies at the University of Caxias do Sul, with the aim of developing hydrophobic foams.

There is still no deadline for the technology to be available to help in real disasters, both the university and Zextec still have tests to do, before releasing the product on a commercial scale.
As in other cases, this research had State and Federal support, through CNPQ and the Rio Grande do Sul Research Fund, and is yet another example of the incredible results that Brazilian science is capable of offering with sufficient funding.
What is Rio Innovation Week?
Rio Innovation Week is an event specially designed to talk about technology and innovation, in addition to generating business. It is one of the biggest events of its kind in the world, being the biggest in Latin America.
Several markets are represented and there are interesting projects to show.
The graphene raft and foam project for ocean and river cleaning, in addition to the possibility of action in water treatment plants, is just one of the hundreds of projects that you can learn about there.
The event will take place until tomorrow, at the Jockey Clube, and you can get more information about tickets and more at website event official.
The growing importance of this mineral for the technology of the future.
Graphene foam is just one of the many uses that this very important mineral has been receiving in recent years.
This week, we've already talked about the use of graphene to provide sodium batteries with a charge similar to that of lithium batteries, but much more can still be discovered and developed with this material.
As well as the carbon quotas for the preservation of the Amazon, the use of ethanol for electric cars through the conversion of hydrogen into so many other incredible technologies, graphene is also an interesting possibility for Brazil to be able to assume a leading role not only as a supplier of raw materials, but also as a center for the development of green technologies with high ecological, social and economic impact.
