Comexport, a logistics and commercial giant based in Brazil, will take a historic step in December 2025 by starting the production of electric and hybrid vehicles at its new multibrand factory in Ceará. The facility was acquired from Ford in Horizonte, a municipality 45 km from Fortaleza, and will be the starting point for a transformation in the Brazilian automotive industrial park.

The factory, which previously housed the production of Troller utility vehicles, was remodeled with an initial investment of R$ 400 million. With the capacity to assemble up to 40,000 vehicles per year, the project relies on a flexible production model known as “multibrand shuttle”, where different cars are assembled on the same lines.

The company’s strategy is to start operations with two or three electrified models, using the CKD (Complete Knock Down) system, where vehicles are assembled from imported kits. Over time, Comexport intends to nationalize production, integrating suppliers and reducing dependence on imports.

Manufacturer with Unrevealed Brand and Unprecedented Hub in the Northeast

The name of Comexport’s first partner manufacturer remains confidential, but it has been confirmed that it belongs to a popular brand among Brazilians and is not a new entrant in the market. The expectation is that the contract will be officially announced later this semester.

In addition to operating vehicle assembly, the company aims to attract suppliers from the South to form a mini-parts hub around the factory. The idea is to create a “Auto Tech Zone” in Ceará, focusing on software, batteries, and research and development (R&D), expanding the industrial impact of the region.

Brazil imported about 500,000 vehicles in 2024, according to Anfavea, the majority powered by electricity and coming from China. Comexport’s proposal emerges as an alternative to reduce exchange costs and promote domestic content in vehicles sold in the country.

From Trading to Industrial Player with R$ 60 Billion in Revenue

Founded in the 1970s as a trading company focused on textile exports, Comexport has undergone various phases to become what it is today. After losing market share in fertilizers due to global concentration, the company reinvented itself as a 5PL logistics operator, offering integrated services ranging from storage to financing.

In 2020, the company’s revenue was R$ 11 billion. By 2024, it reached R$ 58 billion, and the projection for 2025 is R$ 60 billion, consolidating its position among the largest companies in the country, even though it is little known to the general public.

Despite interest from major groups like XP, BTG Pactual, and J&F, Comexport does not consider being sold. CEO Alan Goldlust claims that they are capitalized “three times what is necessary” and are seeking strategic alliances with operational synergy, and not just asset sales.

National Industry and Advanced Logistics as Competitive Differentiators

To make the manufacturer project feasible, Comexport relies on the integration of logistics, technology, and parts nationalization, creating a sustainable and economically viable production model for the Brazilian context. The goal is to scale production with local suppliers and lower automotive electrification costs in Brazil.

The initiative positions Ceará as a new strategic center for electric mobility in the country, alongside existing hubs in Pernambuco and Bahia. The company also hopes to benefit other manufacturers in the region, such as Stellantis and BYD, with the supply of optimized components and logistics solutions.

According to a report from NeoFeed published on July 14, 2025, Comexport’s transition from a simple trading company to a logistics and industrial powerhouse was the result of strategic decisions in response to changes in the global scenario, particularly in the commodities sector.
