In The Midst Of Rising Gasoline Prices, Ethanol Emerges As An Economic Alternative For Flex Drivers
New figures reveal that the average cost of ethanol in September represented only 68.4% of the average price of gasoline. This milestone had not been reached since October 2018, when the percentage was at 67.9%. These statistics are provided by the Flex Cost-Benefit Indicator from the Veloe Mobility Data Outlook.
Given the surge in gasoline prices this year, ethanol has emerged as the most economical option for flex-fuel vehicles. Looking at the accumulated data for this year, we see a 4.3% reduction in the price of ethanol, in contrast to a significant 15.9% increase in the average price of conventional gasoline. When comparing September 2023 with the previous month, we observe a 2.1% increase in gasoline prices, while ethanol saw a slight rise of 0.5%. Regionally, Mato Grosso stood out by offering the greatest savings on ethanol, costing only 59.2% of the price of gasoline. On the other hand, in Rio Grande do Sul, gasoline proved to be more competitive, with the price ratio between the two fuels reaching 83%.
