As Part of a Significant Modernization, the Brazilian Army Is Incorporating Two New Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk Version M Helicopters. This Update Will Replace Older Models, Such as the Black Hawk and the Cougar, Facing Operational Difficulties. In Addition to Strengthening Maneuver and Special Operations Capabilities, the Acquisition Aims to Standardize the Fleet, Improving Logistics and Technical Efficiency Through the Foreign Military Sales Program of the United States.
The Brazilian Army, following its Maneuver Capability Project of the Strategic Aviation Program, has acquired twelve new UH-60 Black Hawk Version M helicopters. This modernization comes to replace the old Black Hawks and Cougar helicopters, which can no longer meet operational and technological needs of the armed forces.
The helicopters were acquired through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program of the United States, highlighting the ongoing partnership between the two countries in defense and military technology. The operation of these new aircraft will be shared among up to three Army Aviation Battalions, locations to be defined by the Army General Staff (EME).
Brazilian Army Is Also in Negotiations With the USA to Modernize Current Helicopters
In terms of logistics and maintenance, Ordinance No. 1301-EME/C Ex, issued on April 23, has already authorized the deactivation of the HM-2 Black Hawk and HM-3 Cougar helicopters. Parts from these aircraft will be reused to maintain the models that will remain in service.

Capacity: transport up to eleven passengers or a combination of cargo and crew, with two pilots. Performance: maximum speed of about 280 km/h, range of 600 km and service ceiling of 6,000 meters.
Mission: ideal for troop transport, medical evacuation, special operations, and search and rescue. History: the Black Hawk has been in service since the 1970s, proving to be one of the most reliable and versatile aircraft in international military operations.
