Experts from Brazil and Belgium discuss energy transition and sustainable logistics; event on 16/10 at CEBRI, Rio de Janeiro.

Professionals from Brazil and Belgium will meet to examine the energy transition and sustainable logistics practices in ports. The event, called 'Green Ports – Partnership Opportunities in Energy transition', will be promoted by the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) in collaboration with the Consulate of Belgium in Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the support of Prumo Logística Global, on October 16th.

A energy transition represents one of the greatest contemporary challenges, especially when considering the need for a transition to a low carbon economy in response to global demands. Such changes are essential to mitigate the climate change and ensure more sustainable practices. During the meeting, innovative strategies and international collaborations that can accelerate these crucial transformations will be discussed.

Debates on Logistics and Energy for the Energy Transition

The meeting will bring together representatives from the logistics and energy sectors with the purpose of discussing advanced practices in environmental management inside the supply chains. It will be an opportunity to explore avenues of collaboration between Brazil and Belgium, in the context of the energy transition. The objective is to strengthen the transition to a low carbon economy.

As the two countries discuss initiatives and challenges, the event aims to foster meaningful strategic partnerships. Such partnerships can provide the necessary impetus for the energy transition, as well as minimizing the environmental impacts associated with industrial activities. This will contribute to a supply chain that is not only more efficient, but also sustainable. “The expectation is that these discussions will serve as a catalyst for concrete advances,” says Rafaela Guedes, CEBRI senior fellow.

Facing the Challenges of Climate Change

Discussions surrounding climate change have led to a significant increase in concern about the pressure exerted by industrial economic activities. This pressure has been a constant challenge when it comes to effective environmental management. In this context, the transition to a low-carbon economy gains importance.

In response, the concept of Sustainable Supply Chain Management was developed. This concept seeks to integrate environmentally responsible practices into all logistics operations. The aim is to optimize sustainability process, significantly reducing negative impacts on natural resources and promoting a green logistics.

Green Logistics: Brazil-Belgium Collaboration

The event, scheduled for the 16th, invites experts from Brazil and Belgium to discuss green logistics initiatives implemented in both countries. Representatives from the Port of Açu and the Port of Antwerp will share their best practices, the challenges they have faced, and the results generated by these innovative initiatives.

Among the many speakers, influential figures from companies and organizations from both countries will be present. Names such as Caroline Mouchart (Consulate General of Belgium in Rio de Janeiro), Disney Neto (DEME Brazil), Eduardo Kantz (Prumo Logística Global) and Lea Reichert (CEBRI) will participate in the meeting. In addition, Maartje Driessens (Porto do Açu) and Matheus Dolecki (Port of Antwerp-Bruges) will also be present, among other experts.

Promotion of Bilateral Innovation and Sustainability

This meeting on October 16 is part of the Economic Mission between Belgium and Brazil, which will take place between November 23 and 30, passing through São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The main objective of this mission is to highlight the two countries as promoters of innovation and sustainability, anchoring these qualities as pillars for an improved and sustainable future.

In a statement from the Belgian Consulate, it was reported that the mission has already registered more than 400 participants. These include representatives of companies, organizations and educational institutions that seek to contribute to a low-carbon economy and more appropriate environmental management.

Event Details: Advancing Energy Transition

The event, entitled 'Green Ports – Partnership Opportunities in the Energy Transition', will take place on October 16, from 11 am to 13:20 pm. It will be held at CEBRI's headquarters, located at Rua Marquês de São Vicente, 336, in Gávea, Rio de Janeiro. This meeting is another step in the ongoing search for solutions that promote the energy transition, reflecting the importance and urgency of this topic in the current scenario, especially with a view to a low-carbon economy.
