Votorantim Cimentos Expands Its Factory In Ceará Promising, In Addition To Generating More Than 100 Jobs For The Population, A 60% Reduction In CO2 Emissions In Its Production Stages
On the morning of this Tuesday (9), the governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana, visited the Votorantim Cimentos factory in Caucaia, which has expanded its capacity fivefold and plans to generate several new jobs. Within the area of the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex, the factory will have the capacity to produce up to one million tons of cement per year. The novelty is that the technology used at the factory in Ceará allows a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process.

When reaching peak production, the unit in Ceará promises to generate up to 105 direct jobs, with 50 of these jobs being a result of the expansion. The governor of Ceará celebrated the emergence of new jobs and income, especially now that the state is trying to revive the economy. In total, about R$ 200 million was invested in the unit.
The company’s global president, Marcelo Castelli, expressed his happiness with the realization of the planning made for the factory. Marcelo also stated that this is the greatest achievement in recent times on national soil. Votorantim Cimentos increased its output from 200,000 tons to one million tons of cement per year. In addition to generating new jobs, the technology at the new factory promises to reduce pollution during the cement manufacturing process. According to the Operations Director of the Northeast Region, Danilo Valadares, Votorantim Cimentos will produce CP3-32 cement and this is one of the major advantages, as it is a sustainable project.
The factory will reduce CO2 emissions by 60% per ton with the installed technology. In addition, the new production method also reduces water resource consumption by 90% and electricity consumption by 30%. Marcelo emphasized that the company’s plans are even bolder in terms of contributions to sustainability in the construction industry.
The director stated that at the Ceará unit there is a vertical mill, which is the best technology currently available. By 2050, the director stated he wants to achieve zero pollutant emissions.
12 Protocols Already Signed In The Pecém Complex
The Pecém Complex has gained prominence in attracting new projects focused on sustainability. The governor of Ceará pointed out a new sector that will contribute to this, in addition to generating jobs and income.
The state is taking the lead with 12 protocols already signed with international companies to install green hydrogen plants in the area. Present at the event, Maia Júnior, Secretary of Economic Development and Labor, highlighted the efforts to seek new projects for the state. It was necessary to revive a differentiated development for the state, and since 1992, Ceará had not experienced such a developed year in terms of job creation.
