UFRRJ Launches An Innovative Master’s In Digital Humanities. The Course Offers Interdisciplinary Approaches, Combining Technology And Humanities.

The technological evolution has profoundly transformed the ways we think, work, and interact with the world.

In this context, the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) launches a revolutionary master’s program that promises to change paradigms: the Interdisciplinary Master’s in Digital Humanities.

This new program combines the study of human and social sciences with the most advanced digital tools, allowing researchers to explore the impacts of technology on society.

With the announcement just released, the program opens its doors to professionals interested in innovatively studying the complex relationships between humanity and technology.

Registrations And Edital Details

According to edital No. 03, published on December 6, 2024, applications for the master’s program will be open from December 15, 2024, to January 31, 2025.

The process will be conducted by the Selection Committee of the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Digital Humanities (PPGIHD).

The master’s program offers a total of 21 places, with 20 allocated for external applicants and one reserved for permanent staff of UFRRJ, including teachers and administrative technicians.

Additionally, up to 20% of the vacancies are directed towards affirmative action policies, benefiting black, brown, indigenous, and quilombola candidates.

According to information from the G1 portal, the main objective of the course is to train researchers capable of facing the contemporary challenges of the humanities, using traditional methods combined with advanced technologies.

What Is The Master’s In Digital Humanities?

The Interdisciplinary Master’s in Digital Humanities is an innovative response to the challenges posed by the digital age.

It integrates the human sciences with technological tools, such as data analysis, artificial intelligence, and computational modeling.

The course promotes an interdisciplinary approach, encouraging the creation of solutions for social and academic problems.

According to the edital, the program explores various fields of knowledge, but its main research lines are:

  • Computational Methods In Public Policies: Use of technological tools to analyze and formulate more efficient public policies.
  • Digital Data Mining: Exploration of large volumes of data to understand social, cultural, and economic dynamics.

These lines highlight how the program seeks to prepare researchers to deal with issues that go beyond the academic field, directly contributing to society.

Who Can Apply?

The course is aimed at professionals with a recognized undergraduate degree in any field, who demonstrate interest and availability to take the courses.

It is necessary for the candidate to be willing to participate in activities on the Nova Iguaçu campus or, occasionally, on the Seropédica campus.

Applicants must possess skills such as discipline, initiative, and motivation to conduct research in a dynamic and technological academic environment.

How The Selection Process Works?

The selection process will be divided into two main stages:

Verification of Applications: Verification of documents presented by the candidates.

Academic Evaluations: Consists of analysis of qualifications, an essay on digital humanities, and an oral questioning.

The final classification will be based on the candidate’s overall score, prioritizing those with better performances in the essay and oral presentation.

    Academic And Professional Impact

According to the G1 portal, the Master’s in Digital Humanities at UFRRJ is pioneering in Brazil, standing out for its interdisciplinary proposal and potential impact.

In addition to training highly skilled researchers, the program aims to contribute to solving real problems, from political to social issues, using cutting-edge technologies.

Those who complete the course will be prepared to work in various fields, such as public policy analysis, academic research, data science, and even consulting in technology applied to the humanities.

    How To Apply

Applications must be made exclusively through the SIGAA platform, accessible via the link: https://sigaa.ufrrj.br/sigaa/public/servicos_digitais/processo_seletivo/lista.jsf?nivel=S&aba=p-stricto.

O programas em Humanidades e Tecnologias da UFRRJ é muito interdisciplinar, abrange desde políticas públicas até inteligência artificial. Isso quer dizer, goze de uma abordagem que pesquisa cientista deve ignorar durante suas pesquisas.
