UFRRJ launches an innovative master's program in digital humanities. The course offers interdisciplinary approaches, combining technology and human sciences.

Technological evolution has profoundly transformed the ways of thinking, working and interacting with the world.

In this context, the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) is launching a revolutionary master's degree that promises to change paradigms: the Interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Digital Humanities.

The new feature combines the study of human and social sciences with the most advanced digital tools, allowing researchers to explore the impacts of technology on society.

With a recently published notice, the program opens its doors to professionals interested in studying, in an innovative way, the complex relationships between humanity and technology.

Registration and details of the notice

According to notice no. 03, published on December 6, 2024, applications for the master's degree will be open between December 15, 2024 and January 31, 2025.

The process will be conducted by the Selection Committee of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Digital Humanities (PPGIHD).

The master's degree offers a total of 21 places, 20 of which are for external audiences and one reserved for UFRRJ employees, including teachers and administrative technicians.

Furthermore, up to 20% of vacancies are allocated to affirmative action policies, including black, mixed-race, indigenous and quilombola candidates.

According to information from the G1 portal, the course's main objective is to train researchers capable of facing contemporary challenges in the humanities, using traditional methods combined with advanced technologies.

What is the Master's in Digital Humanities?

The Interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Digital Humanities is an innovative response to the challenges posed by the digital age.

It integrates human sciences with technological tools, such as data analysis, artificial intelligence and computational modeling.

O course promotes an interdisciplinary approach, encouraging the creation of solutions to social and academic problems.

According to the notice, the program explores several areas of knowledge, but its main lines of research are:

  • Computational methods in public policies: Use of technological tools to analyze and formulate more efficient public policies.
  • Digital Data Mining: Exploration of large volumes of data to understand social, cultural and economic dynamics.

These lines highlight how the program seeks to prepare researchers to deal with issues that go beyond the academic field, contributing directly to society.

Who can apply?

The course is aimed at professionals with a recognized undergraduate degree in any area, who demonstrate interest and availability to take the courses.

The candidate must be willing to participate in activities on the Nova Iguaçu campus or, occasionally, on the Seropédica campus.

Interested parties must have skills such as discipline, initiative and motivation to conduct research in a dynamic and technological academic environment.

How does the selection process work?

The selection process will be divided into two main stages:

Homologation of registrations: Verification of documentation presented by candidates.

Academic assessments: Consists of title analysis, an essay on digital humanities and an oral argument.

    The final classification will be based on the candidate's overall score, prioritizing those with the best performances in the essay and oral presentation.

    According to the G1 portal, the Master's in Digital Humanities at UFRRJ is a pioneer in Brazil, standing out for its interdisciplinary proposal and its potential for impact.
