After decades of dividing income between horticulture and poultry farming, producers from the interior of São Paulo invested in the modernization of farms, expanded production capacity, and gained recognition in one of the most competitive segments of Brazilian agribusiness

A decision made in search of a better quality of life ended up completely changing the fate of a rural family from the interior of São Paulo. In Amparo (SP), the Dariolli family left behind an activity that had sustained the property for many years and began to invest fully in broiler poultry farming. The result was a transformation that elevated Sítio São Luís to the group of standout producers in the region, with poultry destined even for highly demanding international markets.

According to a report published by the project Interligados – Life in the Countryside, the family’s journey in chicken farming began long before the recent business expansion. The patriarch Adenir Dariolli started his activities in the 1970s, combining poultry farming with coffee cultivation, a common practice among rural producers in the region at that time.

Over the years, the accumulated knowledge was passed on to new generations, laying the foundations for the growth that would come decades later.

From helper in the barns to leader of the property’s modernization

From a very young age, Edmárcio Dariolli closely followed the routine of the countryside. At the age of 13, he was already assisting his father with tasks related to chicken farming, learning firsthand the challenges of the activity.

In 1990, the family took an important step by officially structuring the property’s first farm. Despite this, for many years the main financial engine of the site continued to be chayote cultivation.

The production of the vegetable required intense dedication. To ensure the commercialization of the harvest, Edmárcio spent entire nights driving trucks to the supply centers of the São Paulo capital, facing long working hours and little family time.

This reality began to change in 2015. After his marriage to Amanda, the producer decided to rethink the property’s business model. The goal was clear: to reduce the exhausting routine of travel and build a more sustainable activity for the family in the long term.

From that moment on, the focus shifted to the modernization of poultry farming.

Investments in technology drove accelerated growth

The transformation gained momentum between 2016 and 2021. During this period, Edmárcio invested in the construction of three new aviaries equipped with modern negative pressure technology, a system widely used to control temperature, ventilation, and thermal comfort of the birds.

The investments significantly increased the property’s production capacity and allowed for important operational efficiency gains.

With the growth of the activity, the family made a definitive decision in 2021: to completely abandon chayote cultivation and focus all efforts on broiler chicken production.

The change marked a new phase for Sítio São Luís.

Today, the property has the capacity to house approximately 100,000 birds per batch, becoming one of the standout family operations in the Amparo region.

Family management is highlighted as a differential to achieve excellence

One of the most striking aspects of the Dariolli’s journey is the management model adopted within the property.

Practically all stages of the production process are conducted by the family members themselves. Edmárcio leads the management alongside his father, Adenir, who at 76 years old continues to actively participate in daily activities and insists on regularly walking through the barns.

Meanwhile, Amanda is responsible for administrative management, including spreadsheets, invoices, financial control, and documentation required by sector audits.

In addition to them, other family members also work directly in the operation, taking on responsibilities in different productive areas of the farm.

This proximity to the business allows for constant monitoring of the facilities and quick responses to any changes in the aviaries.

According to Edmárcio, daily observation is one of the most important factors for maintaining high-level production indicators. As each batch reacts differently to climate changes, permanent monitoring facilitates immediate adjustments in ventilation, temperature, and the environment of the facilities.

The aviaries are equipped with climate-controlled systems and modern exhaust fans, contributing to better animal welfare conditions and productivity.

Additionally, the property works in partnership with specialized technicians from the integrator responsible for weekly monitoring of zootechnical indices.

Exportation requires strict quality and biosecurity standards

Continuous care in management has led to recognition in the sector.

Over the years, the family has won important awards in competitions promoted by the Superagro circuit, consolidating its reputation among the best producers in the region.

This performance becomes even more relevant when observing the profile of the markets served by the production.

A large part of the chickens processed by the partner integrator is destined for export. Among the buyers are countries that maintain strict sanitary and quality standards.

China is one of the most cited examples by the producers. The Chinese market has a strong demand for certain cuts, including chicken feet, a highly valued product by local consumers.

For this reason, any small lesion, scratch, or change in the quality of the bird’s skin can compromise the international commercialization of the batch.

In this scenario, biosecurity, animal welfare, and operational excellence have become absolute priorities within the property.

Family legacy aims at the third generation in the field

Even after decades of work and constant growth, the family’s plans have not stopped.

The current goal is to complete financial commitments and make room for new investments, further expanding the productive structure in the coming years.

More than expanding the business, however, there is a desire that moves the producers.

For Edmárcio, the greatest motivation is observing his young son’s interest in the farm’s routine. The arrival of trucks transporting chicks already sparks the child’s curiosity, fueling the hope that the third generation of the family will keep alive a legacy built over approximately 50 years of dedication to the land.

In an era marked by rural succession as one of the great challenges of Brazilian agribusiness, stories like the Dariolli’s show that tradition, innovation, and family management can go hand in hand to ensure the continuity of properties and the competitiveness of national production.

Do you believe that family succession will be one of the main challenges of Brazilian agribusiness in the coming decades?
