Fernando Maggi Scheffer, From The Bom Futuro Group, Joins Entrepreneurs To Create Buriti Mining, Eyeing The Hot Precious Metal Market In The State.
The entrepreneur Fernando Maggi Scheffer, one of the partners of the agricultural giant Bom Futuro, is diversifying his investments. He is now entering the mining sector focusing on gold exploration in Mato Grosso. This move comes through the creation of a new company, Buriti Mining, at a time of significant revenue increase for the metal in the country.
The Establishment Of Buriti Mining In Poconé
Fernando Maggi Scheffer has partnered to found Buriti Mining. The new company will operate in the gold exploration in licensed areas. Operations will be concentrated in the municipality of Poconé, located in southern Mato Grosso.
A Strategic Partnership To Control The New Company
The control of the new mining company will be equally divided. Half of the company (50%) will belong to Scheffer and executive Dyogo Augusto Machado. Machado has strong expertise in agribusiness, with experience at Grupo Scheffer and multinationals such as FMC, Syngenta, and UPL.

The other 50% of Buriti Mining will belong to Valdinei Mauro de Souza. Souza holds the mineral rights to the exploration areas and was responsible for initiating the project. The deal still depends on the approval of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).
The Booming Gold Market Drives Investment
The investment occurs in a favorable environment. In the first quarter of 2025, revenue from gold in Brazil doubled. The value jumped from R$ 4.6 billion to R$ 9.3 billion, representing a growth of 101%.
Mato Grosso has followed this trend significantly. The state, which is already the third largest gold producer in the country, saw its revenue from the metal increase by 60% in the same period.
The Diversification Of One Of The Biggest Names In The Agribusiness
Although Grupo Bom Futuro does not have a formal participation in the operation, Fernando Maggi’s presence is a clear signal. The move indicates a capital diversification from agribusiness to the mineral sector. Scheffer is one of the key figures in the Maggi Scheffer family, with over three decades of experience in the field.
Bom Futuro, led by him and his brothers Eraí and Elusmar — cousins of former minister Blairo Maggi — is a major agricultural giant and one of the largest groups in the sector in Brazil. The company cultivates over 650 thousand hectares and also operates in energy, livestock, seeds, and logistics.
Beyond Business: The Passion For Motorsports
Outside the business world, Fernando Maggi Scheffer nurtures another passion. He is an amateur autocross driver, a rally format contested on dirt circuits. Currently, he holds the position of president of the State of Mato Grosso Automobile Federation (Faemt).
