The Early Renewal of the Concession of the Centro-Atlântica Railway Foresees an Investment of R$ 10 Billion in Minas Gerais. This Investment is Part of an Even Larger Plan Aimed at Modernizing the Largest Railway Network in Brazil, Promising to Boost the Economy of Minas Gerais and Other States
The early renewal of the concession of the Centro-Atlântica Railway (FCA) brings exciting news: R$ 10 billion will be injected into Minas Gerais. This amount is part of a project for modernization and expansion of the railway network, which will be essential for increasing logistical efficiency, according to the website otempo.
With this renewal, which extends the concession until 2056, VLI, the concessionaire responsible for the railway, projects a growth of 32% in cargo volume in Minas Gerais. This includes the movement of grains, cellulose, and steel products – strategic segments for the state.
In addition to directly impacting the economic flow, the project also foresees the generation of 10,000 jobs. That’s quite significant, isn’t it?

Modernization of the East and Southeast Corridor
The main focus of this financial investment in Minas will be the modernization of the east corridor of the Centro-Atlântica Railway, which connects the state to the port system of Espírito Santo. The restructuring includes improvement works on existing infrastructure and the purchase of new wagons and locomotives, also generating a stimulus for rolling stock manufacturers in Brazil.
Minas, which is already one of the main industrial and agricultural hubs in the country, will see an increase in the transport of steel products, soy, corn, and petroleum derivatives. And for those who think it only goes one way, there will also be returning cargo: the flow of fertilizers will be reinforced by the tracks connecting Espírito Santo to the interior of Minas Gerais.
Infrastructure Works and Urban Conflicts
Another important aspect of the renewal is the R$ 190 million allocated to address urban conflicts in 25 municipalities in Minas Gerais. These conflicts include the relocation of cargo yards and the modernization of sections of the railway network that cross urban areas, as well as new integrated solutions to minimize problems between highways and tracks.

This modernization also presents a unique opportunity to further integrate cities with the railway, enhancing the economic growth potential of the serviced regions.
A New Era for National Logistics
According to the CEO of VLI, Fábio Marchiori, the renewal of the FCA concession is seen as a gateway to a new era of transformation in Brazilian logistics. By modernizing rail transportation, sectors such as steel, agribusiness, and industry gain efficiency, which directly impacts the national economy.
In addition to Minas Gerais, other states like Bahia, Espírito Santo, and Goiás are also part of this mega-investment that promises to change the face of logistics in the country. The renewal process has been approved by ANTT and will be taken to public hearings, with full transparency and a focus on development.
So, what do you think? Is it time for Minas Gerais to accelerate on the tracks?
