Fiat Automaker Bets on Byo-Hybrid Technology to Offer More Efficiency and Lower Environmental Impact in Brazil.
Fiat officially announced the launch of its first hybrid models in Brazil: Fastback and Pulse, both equipped with the new Byo-Hybrid technology. The event took place in November 2024 during a press conference held by Stellantis, the group that controls the automaker. According to industry experts, this innovation aims to make cars more efficient without significantly increasing production costs.
How Does Fiat’s Hybrid Technology Work?
The Byo-Hybrid technology consists of a mild hybrid system that combines the internal combustion engine with a small 12V electric motor. According to Fiat itself, this electric motor replaces the conventional alternator and helps with fuel economy, reducing consumption and CO₂ emissions.
Technicians from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology (Inmetro) point out that this system improves energy efficiency without compromising the vehicle’s power. Tests conducted by the agency indicate that the Fiat Pulse hybrid can achieve 13.4 km/l with gasoline and 9.3 km/l with ethanol in the city, while the hybrid Fastback records 12.6 km/l with gasoline and 8.9 km/l with ethanol.

Performance and Features of Hybrid Models
Both models feature the T200 engine, a 1.0 turbo flex three-cylinder engine that delivers up to 130 hp of power and 20.4 kgfm of torque. According to Fiat, this engine offers a balance between performance and efficiency. The automatic CVT transmission with seven simulated gears provides a smoother driving experience, a characteristic highlighted by specialists from the magazine Autoesporte in recent evaluations.
In terms of design, the models maintain the well-known visual identity, with the addition of the T200 Hybrid emblem on the rear and the new exclusive Amalfi Blue color. The Fastback, in turn, stands out for its 600-liter trunk, one of the largest in its category, according to analysis by Quatro Rodas.
