Since 2016, the Fiat Mobi has outperformed the Fiat Uno in sales, thanks to its affordable price and advanced technologies. The Fiat Uno may return to the market as an affordable electric popular car in the next decade.
The Fiat Uno, a beloved popular car throughout Brazil, was scheduled to launch a new generation of models in 2020. However, the plans of the Italian automaker were seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit Brazil in March 2020. This global event had a considerable impact on the automotive industry, creating significant challenges for automakers, including Fiat.
Fiat Mobi Overwhelms Fiat Uno Sales Since 2016
During the pandemic, several automakers adapted their production lines to manufacture ventilators, aiming to save lives. In this challenging context, the Fiat Uno project was temporarily suspended, and Fiat faced the need to make difficult decisions in light of declining sales.
The Fiat Uno, which had already been losing ground to the Fiat Mobi since the latter’s launch in 2016, ultimately went out of production. The Mobi, although initially facing some market positioning challenges, eventually surpassed the Uno. One of the reasons for the discontinuation of the Uno was its higher production cost compared to the Mobi.

In marketing terms, revitalizing the Uno’s image would be more costly than promoting the Mobi brand. It’s important to highlight that the Fiat Mobi ranks among the five best-selling cars in Brazil, competing with the Renault Kwid for the title of the most affordable popular car on the market, a position the Uno could not maintain. However, there is a possibility that the Fiat Uno could return to the Brazilian market, perhaps at the end of this decade or the beginning of the next, as an affordable and popular electric car.
New Fiat Uno Electric May Cost R$ 70 Thousand
There is a strong possibility of the Uno returning to the market, given that, according to the words of Fiat’s global CEO, Olivier François, the company desires to revive historical names of the brand with the upcoming generation of Italian electric cars. Besides the electric version, Fiat plans to bring a Fiat Uno 2024 with a hybrid system equipped with a 1.0 Firefly engine to the European market, combining tradition and innovation.
Despite being referred to as the Fiat Uno, the model is named Fiat Panda, an urban version that differs from the Cross model only in appearance. Called Urban, it features black external mirrors, black side stripes, and lacks the plastic protections along the body that give it an off-road feel. The model is already available for sale in various European markets and is priced between 11,785 euros (R$ 70,200) and 15,684 euros (R$ 93,520).
Discover The History Of The Popular Car Fiat Uno
Before being replaced by the Fiat Mobi, the popular car began its history in 1983 and arrived in Brazil in August 1984, marking a milestone for the Italian automaker. The concept of a hatchback for the brand included only the small 147 and its derivatives.
In the 1990s, Brazil established new tax rules that reduced taxes for models with 800 to 1000 cm³, prompting Fiat to shorten the stroke of the pistons and produce a version with a 994 cm³ engine (48 horsepower).
In 2013, the original design was discontinued due to new Brazilian safety requirements and technological obsolescence. Thus, the brand launched the new Fiat Uno, modernizing its design and square format, in addition to featuring the EVO engine.
