With 60 New 100% Electric Buses, São Paulo Expands Sustainable Fleet Focused on Comfort, Accessibility, Economy, and Emission Reduction

The capital of São Paulo has just received an important boost to its public transportation fleet. On Thursday (24), BYD Brazil delivered 60 100% electric buses during an event held at Charles Miller Square in São Paulo. The vehicles were produced at the manufacturer’s factory in Campinas, in the interior of the state.

Focusing on sustainability and efficiency, the delivered buses are of the BYD D9W model. They promise more comfort and less pollution for passengers and for the city.

Vehicles with Cutting-Edge Technology

The new buses are 12.98 meters long and have a capacity for 80 seated passengers. One of the highlights is the charging time: only two to three hours. In addition, the vehicle’s range can reach up to 250 kilometers per day.

According to the manufacturer, operational costs can be up to 70% lower compared to diesel-powered models.

This is due, among other factors, to the regenerative braking system, which utilizes the energy from braking to recharge the batteries.

Another important point is the Low Entry design, which eliminates steps and facilitates boarding for people with reduced mobility.

The adjustable pneumatic suspension also contributes to the comfort and safety of passengers and drivers.

The inclusion of these vehicles raises the total number of BYD electric buses in circulation in the city of São Paulo to 183.

Sustainability in Focus

Each electric bus chassis from BYD avoids the emission of about 118 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) per year. This figure is equivalent to planting approximately 847 trees.

In addition to being less polluting, the new vehicles in the São Paulo fleet have an estimated lifespan of up to 15 years, longer than the average 10 years of diesel buses.

With this initiative, São Paulo takes another step towards transitioning to cleaner and more efficient public transportation.
