After Escaping From Slaughterhouse in Arizona, Cow Becomes Symbol of Resistance, Mobilizes Dozens of People and Secures Permanent Home in Sanctuary
In August, a cow surprised residents of San Tan Valley, Arizona (USA). The animal escaped from the slaughterhouse moments before being slaughtered, crossed the traffic of a busy highway and stopped peacefully to graze near a lake.
However, the freedom was short-lived. Employees of the slaughterhouse, with the support of local police, found the runaway and brought her back to her final destination.
The Story That Went Viral
The episode didn’t end there. Videos of the moment circulated on social media and soon reached Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary.

ET in Paraná? After intriguing videos, mysterious sounds in the forest, and theories that dominated social media, the Brazilian Air Force reveals what its radars recorded and increases the mystery about the alleged UFO seen in Campo Largo.
The owner, Aimee Takaha, was moved when she saw the cow’s courage. “When I watched it for the first time, I thought: I can bring her here,” Aimee told ABC15 Arizona.
The Price of the Cow’s Life
The enthusiasm, however, faced an obstacle. The owner of the slaughterhouse would only release the animal for US$ 2,500, about R$ 13,350, with payment within 24 hours. Otherwise, the cow would be slaughtered the next day.
Aimee decided to act. She posted an urgent appeal on social media, revealing that the cow, named Mootilda, had only “one or two days” of guaranteed life left.
Collective Support
The call gained momentum. In just 12 hours, more than 60 people contributed donations to save the animal. The amount was quickly raised, and Aimee didn’t waste any time.
“I told him: I have the money, don’t kill her tomorrow. Bring her here,” she recalled emotionally.
On August 26, Mootilda arrived at the sanctuary. Aimee made sure to document the moment in a new Facebook post, this time to thank the community for their solidarity.
The story, which started with a desperate attempt to escape, ended happily.
Mootilda now lives surrounded by care and protection, a symbol of resistance and also of the unity of people who believed she deserved a second chance.
