The course requires 96 credits, with 56 in academic disciplines and 40 corresponding to the final project. The duration ranges from 12 to 24 months, with in-person classes at the Manguinhos campus in Rio de Janeiro, always on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Complementary activities may be scheduled at other times.
Free Graduate Programs (Professional Master’s) Offered by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation
The master’s program is organized into two main research lines:
- History, Memory, and Society – a critical approach to how memory and heritage connect, emphasizing records and practices in sciences and health.
- Preservation and Management – directed toward the study and practice of managing collections and scientific assets, exploring methods of safeguarding and cultural enhancement.
Available Spots and Distribution
The selection process offers 18 spots, some of which are devoted to affirmative actions:
- 7% for People with Disabilities
- 20% for candidates of African descent (Black and Brown)
- 3% for Indigenous candidates
- 10% for residents of the Maré and Manguinhos territories
The remaining opportunities are open to all. If there are not enough candidates to fill the quotas, spots may be reverted.
Selection Process
The selection will be conducted in three stages, all remotely:
- Document Analysis – checking of mandatory documents.
- Evaluation of Letter of Intent, Pre-project, and Lattes Curriculum – a central stage that requires a minimum score of 7.0 to pass.
- Contextualized Interview – assessment of the relevance of the pre-project, clarity of ideas, and alignment with the program.
Candidates registered under the quotas will also have to undergo heteroidentification or document verification interviews.
Requirements for Registration
Graduates in any area can participate, provided they present a higher education diploma (or a declaration of completion for those finishing their degree), a research pre-project, a letter of intent, a Lattes curriculum, and personal documents.
As all stages are online, it is necessary to have a computer with a camera, microphone, and stable internet access. For those applying under the quotas, specific proof documentation will also be required.
Available Scholarships
One of the highlights of this free course from Fiocruz is the offer of 4 master’s scholarships, with a monthly value of R$ 2,100.00, following the CAPES table. The maximum duration of the scholarship is 24 months, covering the entire period of the course.
According to the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz, priority will be given to candidates without employment ties or regular sources of income. Selected scholars must meet all academic requirements within the timeframe, submit a research report within 60 days after defense, and share their results at Fiocruz events.
This policy aims to encourage students’ full dedication, ensuring the quality of training and the projects developed.
