Samsung Confirms Pilot Program in the U.S. and Transforms Family Hub Refrigerators into Screens for Ads, Following Its Global Philosophy of “Screens Everywhere.”
If it’s digital, it can have a screen. And if it has a screen, it can show ads. This idea that already dominates phones, TVs, and even cars has now arrived in the kitchen.
Samsung has announced that its Family Hub™ refrigerators will begin displaying advertising in the United States.
Update Confirmed
The announcement came in a statement to Android Authority.

The revelation was surprising because, in April, the company had told The Verge that it had no plans to bring ads to refrigerators. Now, Samsung itself talks about “promotions and selected ads” on its devices.
The company is trying to justify the decision. According to The Verge, the manufacturer claims that ads enhance the product’s value.
In the statement, it reinforces the message: “Samsung is committed to innovation and to the daily appreciation of our home appliance customers. As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen this value, we are conducting a pilot program to offer selected promotions and ads on certain models of Samsung Family Hub refrigerators in the American market.”
How Ads Work
Ads will appear when the screen is idle.
However, they will not show up during “Art Mode” or while displaying photo albums.
In other words, they replace the screensaver.
Samsung says it is possible to manually dismiss each ad, and it won’t return. However, there is no official option to permanently disable the feature in the refrigerator’s settings.
In practice, the consumer is stuck with the system. The only way out is to wait for users to discover some alternative method to block the ads.
Company’s Broader Strategy
The innovation follows a philosophy referred to by Samsung itself as “Screens Everywhere.” The brand has been inserting advertising into its televisions for years and is now bringing the same idea to the kitchen.
Moreover, Family Hub™ refrigerators also stand out for other features, such as AI Vision Inside™ technology, which promises to automatically recognize stored food items.
This move, however, reflects a larger trend. It’s not just Samsung. Even cars are not exempt: automotive entertainment systems are already showing ads. Now, even a quick trip to the refrigerator at midnight could be accompanied by unavoidable advertising.
