Venezuelan Dictator Nicolás Maduro Says He Spoke With Lula (PT) About Creating a “Political Bloc” of the Left in Latin America and the Caribbean. Thus, Maduro Wants to Pull Brazil to Russia’s Side, Aiming to Unite Forces with Russia and China.

The statement was made in a speech at the National Assembly this Thursday (12). In that meeting, Maduro mentioned discussing the topic with representatives from other neighboring countries with leftist governments.

– I was talking about this with Lula on the phone the other day, personally with the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and was talking about this with the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández. A new era is coming, a special time to unite efforts and paths of Latin America and the Caribbean to advance in forming a powerful bloc of political forces, an economic power that speaks to the world – pointed out the Venezuelan leader.

For him, the results of the last elections in the Latin American continent showed the rise of the left. Like President Gustavo Petro of Colombia; Alberto Fernandez of Argentina; Gabriel Boric of Chile; and Lula of Brazil. The new bloc planned by Maduro would represent a “new pole of power” between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom Maduro refers to as “Big Brother” and advocates for close ties with Putin.

– This shared destiny community that our older brother, President Xi Jinping, talks about. Humanity as a community of shared destiny. Or that multipolar and multicentric world that our older brother, President Vladimir Putin, speaks of – noted the dictator.

The Relationship Between Lula and Maduro

After Lula’s victory in the 2022 general elections, Maduro said on social media that he agreed to resume the “cooperation agenda” with Brazil through a phone call with the Workers’ Party. “I had a good phone conversation with the elected president of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Lula. We agreed to resume the bilateral cooperation agenda between our two countries. Thank you for your willingness,” he wrote on October 31.

On January 1, Brazil fully restored diplomatic relations with Venezuela through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Maduro was even able to witness Lula’s inauguration after President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) reversed a decree that prevented him from entering the country, but ultimately canceled his participation.
