Article 2 of Gerdau’s Bylaws states that the company operates only in two areas: a) participation in the capital of companies involved in the industry and trade of steel and/or metal products; and b) exploration of the industry and trade of steel products in general.
Gerdau wants to amend this article to also include the importation and commercialization of natural gas. If shareholders approve, the company would stop acquiring natural gas solely for its own consumption in its plants and could, to some extent, sell it in the market.

The expansion of Gerdau’s corporate purpose was discussed by the board of directors, which approved the submission of the proposal to the shareholders’ meeting.
Gerdau’s Journey in Using Natural Gas
Gerdau already has a long history of using natural gas in its plants. In 2005, for example, Gerdau Açominas became the first company in Minas Gerais to use compressed natural gas in its production line.
Furthermore, three months ago, three of the company’s plants were authorized by the Ministry of Mines and Energy to import natural gas from Bolivia. Gerdau Aços Longos received approval to purchase 169 thousand cubic meters per day of the fuel. Gerdau Aços Especiais, 140 thousand cubic meters/day; and Gerdau Açominas, an additional 210 thousand cubic meters daily.
