The Pernambuco Gas Company (Copergás) Announced a 20% Reduction in the Price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Starting May 1 in Pernambuco.

The change will benefit about 92 thousand drivers in the state, mainly taxi drivers and app drivers. With this reduction, CNG becomes even more competitive compared to other fuels, as it is more economical, safer, and less polluting.

The drop in CNG prices is a result of the dollar’s fluctuation and the barrel of oil, which directly influences the weighted average price of natural gas sold by the companies supplying Copergás, which today are three: Petrobras, Shell, and Nova Fortaleza. With the diversity of suppliers, the company gains more flexibility in price setting.

The 20% reduction in rates will have a strong positive impact on various activities consuming CNG, such as public transport, the industrial sector, and power generators. In a scenario where prices are rising in several sectors, a reduction of this magnitude has a significant effect. The President of Copergás, André Campos, highlighted the opportunity for Pernambucans to have cheaper CNG. Even before this reduction, CNG was already competitive compared to other fuels. With this 20% drop, its advantages become even greater. CNG is a more economical option for drivers, with lower fuel costs and greater yield compared to other fuels. In addition, CNG is a safer option, with a lower risk of fire and explosion in case of accidents.
