Google In Search Of Greener Energy Makes Largest Renewable Energy Investment In Corporate History.
Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, revealed plans for the largest renewable energy agreement in corporate history, stating that the clean energy agreement will include 18 separate deals to provide Google with electricity from wind and solar projects around the world. New Wind Farm In Bahia Is One Of Neoenergia’s Recent Investments.
The search engine’s green energy portfolio will increase by 40%, giving the company access to an additional 1.6 gigawatts of clean energy – the equivalent capacity of one million solar rooftops, the company reported.
Google stated that it became the first company of its size to match 100% of its electricity usage with renewable energy sources in 2017, after purchasing over 7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. It achieved this feat again last year and expects to meet the goal in 2019 as well. Once the most recent agreements are signed, Google’s supply contracts with renewable energy developers will total 5.5GW.

Dredged material from navigation channels restores life to Poplar Island, reconstructs 1,715 acres of land, expands open water zones, and creates a refuge for hundreds of migratory and local bird species.
The company has become the largest corporate buyer of renewable electricity, matching the massive energy demand from its global operations and data centers with electricity generated from renewable energy projects.
Pichai said that the latest business package “will stimulate the construction of over $2 billion in new energy infrastructure,” including millions of solar panels and hundreds of wind turbines across three continents.
“We are not buying energy from existing wind and solar farms, but we are making long-term purchase commitments that result in the development of new projects,” he said.
Bringing renewable energy to the grids where we consume power is a critical component of the quest for carbon-free energy 24/7 for all our operations,” Pichai added.
Almost half of Google’s new investments in renewable energy will be made in Europe, including projects in Finland, Sweden, Belgium, and Denmark. The agreement also includes investments in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, as well as a smaller contract in South America to power a Google data center in Chile.
