The New Natural Gas Bill Approved in the State of Amazonas Aims to Improve Sector Competitiveness, Attract New Investments, and Expand Market
The Legislative Assembly of Amazonas approved the natural gas bill yesterday, Wednesday (10). The objective is to regulate the distribution of inputs and services traded throughout the state. The law stipulates that the provision of piped gas distribution services will be performed by authorized bodies, which may be specifically delegated to the entire Amazon region via bidding under a franchise system.

The law also establishes a list of rights and obligations that companies must comply with to provide services and establishes that the government has the right to oversee the services, as well as access data related to management, accounting, technology, economy, and financial resources. The proposal aims to improve sector competitiveness, attract new investments, expand the market, generate jobs, income, and collect taxes.
Deputy Josué Neto stated that the new law will open markets for other types of distribution, such as waterway and road transport, but will maintain the monopoly on natural gas distribution through pipelines.
