A Leaked Recording of a New Tesla Training Program Reveals the Company Is Concerned About an Increasing Employee Morale Problem
Last year, Tesla faced a series of layoffs that were poorly managed at various levels, resulting in significant issues “in employee morale.” A year later, these challenges appear to persist and the company is seeking solutions.
Just last week, according to the website Electrek, Tesla halted production at Gigafactory Texas for a week, during which employees were encouraged to participate in training sessions. One of the topics covered was “organizational culture,” and Business Insider obtained a recording that revealed some statements made in this context.
The instructor asked Tesla employees participating in the training if they had ever felt “I can’t work under these conditions” or if they had ever felt harmed by the constant changes in the company. “I know I have,” the instructor told the employees.

The recording highlighted that Tesla is facing some turnover issues due to morale. The instructor said:
“Many people leave this company with a bad taste in their mouth. They think: ‘Man, it was horrible. It was bad. I felt drained. I feel like I didn’t get anything done, nobody listened to me.’”
The training on company culture was supposedly intended for Tesla management, but the instructor stated that the company decided to expand it to all employees.
They added:
“Leadership has another level of responsibility: to try to guide and direct this culture. But, in the end, it’s us, the people in the field, who are the reflection of this culture.”
The instructor emphasized the need for employees to focus on Tesla’s “greater purpose.”
Tesla has greatly benefited from being a mission-driven company, with the goal of accelerating the transition to electric transport and sustainable energy.
However, Tesla’s mission seems to have shifted over the years as CEO Elon Musk redirected the focus to autonomous driving. Many people perceive that the original mission has been undermined, especially considering Musk’s support for Donald Trump and the Republican Party, which historically oppose electric vehicles and renewable energy.
