Recent Satellite Images Revealed a Mysterious Project Underway in China: The Construction of a Submarine of Gigantic Proportions with a Never-Before-Seen Design. The Structure Intrigued Military Analysts and Defense Experts, Who See in the Project Signs of a Possible Technological Leap in the Chinese Naval Sector

A giant submarine, about 45 meters long, was spotted by satellite images at a Chinese shipyard. Images were released in February.

What caught the attention of specialists was the absence of a command tower. This raises the hypothesis that the machine is, in fact, the largest underwater drone ever developed.

Structure Different from Traditional Submarines

The design indicates that the vessel was designed to operate without a crew. Its dimensions are considered modest for a conventional military submarine but very large for a common drone.

The shape of the X-shaped rudders also attracts attention. This may be linked to stealth strategies, allowing for discreet and prolonged missions in underwater environments.

The absence of any structure to accommodate humans reinforces the idea of an autonomous or remotely operated drone.

The vessel was seen under construction at the Guangzhou Shipyard, known for other advanced projects, such as the JARI USV — a surface drone.

The Power of Underwater Drones

In recent years, underwater drones have gained traction in real military scenarios. One of the most recent examples was the use of such equipment in conflicts in the Black Sea. The advantage of these systems lies in their ability to operate without risking human lives.

With the development of such a large drone, China shows that it intends to advance rapidly in this technology.

There are comparisons with the Orca XLUUV, a well-known American project.

The Chinese drone would be six to eight times larger, putting it in a new category in terms of range and versatility.

Possible functions include reconnaissance missions, mine laying, and targeted attacks.

There is also a suggestion that the machine could conduct operations in deep waters, similar to the Russian submarine Losharik, which specializes in such tasks.

Expansion of Maritime Power

The initiative fits into a broader strategy of naval modernization in China. The country is already investing in aircraft carriers, destroyers, and surface drones.

Now, with the inclusion of large underwater drones, the Chinese arsenal gains a new dimension.

The presence of this new vessel could alter the balance of power in the South China Sea.
