Adaptation made with 3D printing diverts part of the air conditioning through an opening in the wall and raises questions about efficiency, safety, and consumption

The idea seems improvised, but raises a curious question: is it possible to create a 3D printed piece to divide the cold air from the air conditioner between two environments? In theory, yes.

A well-designed piece can function as a duct, capturing part of the air coming out of the device and directing this flow to another room.

The proposal gained attention on social media after an image of an adaptation made on a wall air conditioner circulated. The video was posted by the profile KaynakNews, on July 4, 2026.

In the photo, a white piece is seen attached to the air outlet of the device. It fits in front of the evaporator and directs part of the ventilation to a curved tube, apparently connected to an opening made in the adjacent wall.

How a piece like this could work

The operation would be simple: the air conditioner continues to cool the environment where it is installed, but part of the air flow is diverted to the neighboring room.

For this, the piece needs to have a firm fit, not completely block the air outlet, and maintain a clear path for circulation.

3D printing allows for custom-made accessories, which facilitates this type of adaptation. Each device has different size, shape, and ventilation direction.

Therefore, such a piece would have to be designed considering the model of the air conditioner, the position of the wall, and the distance to the other environment.

Idea draws attention, but requires caution

Although it seems like a practical solution, the result depends on several factors. The air conditioner needs to have enough power to serve both spaces. Otherwise, it may take longer to cool, work longer, and consume more energy.

Another important point is the installation. A poorly positioned duct can reduce the efficiency of the device, cause air leaks, or hinder the correct distribution of ventilation. Care is also needed when drilling walls, especially when there is wiring, piping, or structure in the location.

The viral case shows that 3D printing can pave the way for creative solutions in daily life. But to work well and safely, such an adaptation needs planning, correct measurements, and technical evaluation before coming off the drawing board.
